As the title ask, how does the long discontinued Beretta 76 .22LR target pistol compare with S&W's venerable model 41 .22LR target pistol? Thanks.

Not in my opinion. To best the 41, you have to look at guns like a Walther, Pardini or Hammerli match gun.

I am not sure there has been a 22 auto to compare with the S&W 41. Dont misunderstand there are a number of good 22 on the market just not as good as the model 41.

I've owned both and in my opinion the Beretta doesn't even come close to the Smith. Don't get me wrong, I love the Beretta and it makes a much better trail gun, if that is what you are after, simply because it is MUCH lighter in weight.

The Smith is in a different class altogether. It was meant for competition and designed with that in mind. The Beretta is an attempt to convert a plinker into something resembling a target gun.

I love my Beretta also, but as already mentioned it's nearly, but not quite in the accuracy league of the model 41. The 41 is pretty much acknowledged as the best of the conventional .22's, Pardini's/Morini/Hammerli/etc are all just a little ahead of the 41, but in a different price class also.

I believe the 76 and it's successor were really designed for action pistol type competition, not bullseye. Think IDPA/IPSC with a rimfire.

The Beretta 89 gold standard is a good comparison to a short barrel Model 41. Course the beretta only has an eight shot magazine and they cost $40 each while magazines for the 41 are much easier to get and cost less.

I've owned both the Beretta 76 and a S&W 41-1. There is no compairason.
The 41-1 is far better. However, I have a Hi-Standard Supermatic Military
Trophy that will out shoot the much sought after S&W 41-1.

I've sold the Beretta and the 41-1, and thinking of selling the Hi-Standard.
Getting to old to shoot. It's just sitting in the safe. If anyone is interested
contact me.

You are comparing apples and oranges....try a Buckmark to compare to a Smith 41 and maybe the comparison would be more gunuine...I used to have a 41 but presently have a Buckmark...was pleased with both...but prefer the Buckmark...so sold the 41....
