I like scratches.
I don't like what WC does to a shotgun.

Now Scattergun Technologies back in the day did a fine job.
Since being bought out by WC , it is not the same and IMO tarnishes the fine reputation ST had back in the day.

Wilson does amazing work on 1911's and I have been very pleased with the things I have bought under their name, BUT it has all been 1911 parts or magazines. I looked at the prices for the rebuilds, and they OK but not a steal. Getting a new set of remy factory stocks, a rebuild and a parkerized job for $350 isnt bad. I think they do good work and the original Scattergun Technologies may have been better, but WC is supposed to employ some very very good gunsmiths.

You might look at Vang Comp systems too.

I also like & own Wilson Combat M1911 pistols, but for shotguns, Hans Vang of Vang Comp is the "man".

Don't spend money on new paint, get the Vang Comp System barrel for your 870. Extended range, accuracy and tighter patterns for $295.

I'll second Hans Vang for his innovation's in shotguns. for the most part there great, however porting is not as useful as it seem to be.
Back boring, forcing cone work and choke work can be done well if the person who does them knows what they are doing.
Hans has a set-up that is unique to this as do i, there is no better way to do the barrel work that the way he developed and lucky he trained some people on how to do it, very few but enough to make sure that it is done properly.
The last thing we need is more repairs to fix somebody's mistake when this type of barrel work is done.
Skeet and trap barrel work is similar but with .735 bores instead of .750 and up bores, forcing cones and fixed choke work are the same more or less.

I have a friend who has had four 870's done by Wilson's "steal" deal.

I had to fix two of them to get them to feed right again after he got them back from Wilson.

Quite honestly, I think I prefer the previous version of that gun. However, that shotgun pictured is quite nice.

Buying a off the rack Wilson Combat 870 will get you a gussied up 870 Express. I'd much rather have a Wingmaster/Police model "modded" up over an express version. My biggest beef is the plastic triggerguard. I figure a off the shelf, parkerized 870 police, with a Surefire foreend would be quite a suiteable all around shotgun. A sidesaddle if really need be, plus no modification to the fore end would be necessary.

Simple, effective, better overall quality, and lots less expensive. Of course, YMMV.

For the price of some of those mods you could buy a brand new 870 Police or a couple of used Wingmasters.

Might be fantastic.

I bought an express specifically to have a gun I'm not afraid to take out and beat the snot out of. Which I have. Repeatedly. Never had any problems with the mag spring, follower, shell lifter, and certainly not the finish. I think I'll try to break it for another five years before I decide I need Wilson to fix it for me.

I much prefer the "before" pics. I bet that old girl fed and shucked shells slicker than green corn through a goose. I'm not wild about the condition of the wood, but hey, that's what happens to working shotguns. Forty bucks for some new walnut furniture, and she'd be plenty pretty.

Don't fall for marketing, get what you need and no more.
There's nothing like a slick working 870, for normal use don't have them coated, the prep for the coating rough's up the surface internally and externally so the coating adheres to the metal.
The coating will burnish on wearing parts and the slickness will return, but it's still a coating and not a good bluing, there nothing like the color of a use-worn blued shotgun.
If you want it coated i will run your through with a batch of military contract guns for $175.00, your call.
