Newbie Makarov owner here. Is it safe with one in the chamber? I managed to get 8 in the magazine and one in the chamber.

I'd like to carry it hammer down, safety off, and one in the pipe. Would you trust your Makarov holstered in this fashion?

I'd like to carry it hammer down, safety off, and one in the pipe.
If I carried my Mak, that's exactly how I'd carry it (I do keep a Russian Mak in one of my trucks, and that's how it's kept). And yes, I'd trust it in Condition 1-- why not?

Back when I carried my Mak that's exactly how I carried it ... only time I used the safety was to de-cock after chambering a round.

If its safe to carry a DA revolver that way, why not the Mak?

8 + 1, hammer down, safety off.
That is how it was designed. The hammer does not contact the firing pin except at the end of the trigger throw.

It is NOT designed to be carried cocked and locked. In fact, since it is DA/SA and the safety is also a decocker, it cannot be carried cocked and locked.

8+1, hammer down, safety off. I use SmartCarry so you'd better believe I wouldn't risk an AD at that location!

7+1 hammer down, safety on. Mine is a car gun so I keep the safety on. If it was on me, the safety would be off. I usually download by one round as I generally keep mags loaded for long periods of time.

It has a rebounding hammer safety. Hammer can't contact the firing pin unless the trigger is all the way back.

Same here.
Round in the chamber, safety off.

I don't carry the Mak but I have them in my cars and all over the house.

BTW klover, a tip since you are new to Maks.

If your Mak was used, it would be a good idea to invest in a new recoil spring.
About $10 at makarov.com

If you intend shooting ammo with bullets heavier than 95 grains or you want a little less recoil, you might want to go to a 19 pound spring. (factory is 17 pounds)
I use 21 pound springs in all my Maks and shoot everything from light target loads and high power reloads to 120 grain bullet Russian Silver Bear ammo.

As designed...

8+1 in the pipe...hammer down...safety off...in a IWB holster or belly band for deep concealment in summer
