How do you clean a dirty Enfield mag?

The mag on my Ishapore has gone from dirty to filthy, and is leaving gummy streaks on the cartridge casings. Is there a simple way to clean out the mag?

Simple stuff.

• Remove the mag from the receiver.
• Push the follower down and rock it about forty-five degrees off level; you should be able to pull it up and out of the body in that orientation. Follower and spring will come out as a single unit.
• Clean.
• Reverse to reassemble.

When I first got mine, and it was full of cosmoline, I used a steam cleaner to de-goop it. I followed up with CLP and it's been fine.

One nice thing about SMLE mags is that they are wide enough to put your fingers in to clean.
