Hi!

How do you clean those hard-to-reach (heck, hard-to-see!) areas of your SIG (P226). You know, under the hammer area, top of mag well, places I can't explain, etc. I don't want any rust to take hold, but I'm not sure how to get in there. Would you spray that area down w/ CLP?
How would I remove the "excess" if I cant reach it?

Thanks!

Thanks Spackler! Never even knew it was there. It's the same stuff they'd teach us at armorers' school.

BTW, I use Q-tips but when I really want to clean my Sig, I do a detailed disassembly of it. Suggest that this be done for anyone's gun that they carry regularly. Take it to a Smith and have it cleaned & inspected. Your life is worth the $.

I use a combo of what 45R said, to avoid more than field stripping.

Grips off. Liberal use of Hoppe's. Very light brushing with a nylon brush if crud is heavy, q-tips if not. Follow by flushing it out with Gun Scubber (or Prestone Brake Cleaner spray). Compressed air to make sure all that stuff has evaporated. Then lube. (CLP or Militec-1, depending on how I feel that day). If I get sloppy with the lube, I blow the excess off with air, or re-spray with GS and try that again if I put way too much lube on. (But I never do that):p
