How do you decide which handgun is right for you?

I don't seem to be able to! I am constantly torn between 1911s, Sigs, and XDs and to a lesser degree, S&W 686 and Ruger SP101 revolvers.

Can I make class "C" or better at an IPSC match with it? If so, it's good enough for me!
