How do YOU define long range?

not me. i'd rather have a group twice that size (heck, 3x that size) centered up than the one pictured. as pictured, it looks like he shot a 46. it looks like 2-3x would still hold the 9 ring and result in a 90.

btw, i see groups like that just about every match. it happens when somebody forgets to put their dope on :) hate that

3x that size, huh? Are you serious? Do you shoot rifles with fixed sights or something? What you're saying makes no sense. After firing that group, I installed an aftermarket "tall" front sight, adjusted the rear sight and pulled the group right into the bull.

But hey, if you like large groups, more power to you.

35W

i got the impression that target was from a stage in the match you linked to. if that's not the case, and you were just sighting in, then i agree, that's fine.

however, i stand by my statement that if i had to choose between a larger centered group and a sub-MOA group that's 8 MOA off, i'll take the larger group.

Well, according to my CCW, anything over 21 feet is long range.

Seriously though, I'm very new to shooting. I only have one rifle (S&W M&P AR-15 Tactical) and 2 shotguns. Also, I haven't had the opportunity to shoot beyond 100 yds yet. I don't have a scope yet either. So far, just iron sights. I do have an EoTech 552.

I would like to get a Remington 700 LTR .308.

As of now, most of my shooting has been with handguns.

21ft. so you shot military qualification 7yrd? I have to agree with you statement shooting even that range can sometime be troubling I still have trouble shooting a close group at 10yrs with my pistol.

As for your AR-15 like I said in the Marines we shot at the 500yrd line with only the Iron sights, but they are adjustables to include the front sight post.

Over 300 yards.....assuming that we are talking about iron sights (no optics).
