How do you get these stickers off the stock?

I just picked up a .22 LR Savage MK II FVXP for squirrel hunting. It is a beautiful little .22 with a nice, full-sized 3X9 power variable scope.

The only thing I don't like about it are the red and white Savage stickers on the stock. I guess this is a big thing lately on synthetic stocked hunting rifles because I see such sticker on the butt stocks of guns on Outdoor channel shows all the time.

Can the stickers be removed without leaving a permanent glue patch on the stock? If you've successfully removed one, what did you use?

Peel off what you can then use either some rubbing alcohol or GooGone to clean off any residue. But hopefully they didn't use a permanent adhesive label and it will peel off cleanly.

As for labels on guns on Outdoor Channel shows, that's advertising for the show sponsors.

Isn't just synthetic stocks. I bought a Marlin Commemorative 39 (brass buttplate and foreend cap) in 1972 or thereabouts. A sticker on the stock said "Genuine American Walnut." When I took the sticker off, the stock finish came off with it. I ended up refinishing the stock and forearm with TruOil.

Be careful with Goo Gone... sometimes it does more damage than good.

Try lighter fluid.

WD-40.

That yellow sticker Browning likes to use on their barrels is even worse, took me 20 minutes to get that thing off without harming the finish :cuss:

Mine just peeled off my savage FCP, no marks or residue. Stuck it back on my ammo can.

+1 on the lighter fluid. It's great for removing the sticky residue and won't harm the finish.

I had a relative that used to work for an eye doctor and it's what they used to remove labels from the lenses for glasses.
