A friend of mine said that he practices using his weak hand or left hand for the mousegun. Reason is that he read somewhere a while back that when facing an attacker, while you are armed with a small handgun, to shoot for the vitals. So the author recommended left hand shooting for "Belly Shots" or "Gut Shots" When the attacker is facing you, the right side of the body is where a lot of goods are located. What do you think?

Ps,
My response was to shoot for the head.:uhoh:

I think INTENTIONALLY using your off-side is generally a bad idea. I think your accuracy will almost always be better with your dominate hand.

I will always use my strong hand if possible. Having said that, I DO occasionally practice with my Kel-Tec P32 using my left hand just in case I ever need to use my left hand (right hand injured.... mousegun ends up in left pocket and I have to draw with my left hand...etc.)

Others might disagree. That's my take though.

Although I think it's a good idea to practice shooting with the weak hand if it ever becomes necessary to do so in a situation I practice with my mouse guns the same as I do with all my others; strong hand with the POA being center mass. With my Beretta 950 I'm sure I could put all nine shots there.

I run 50 rounds through my P32 a month. I shoot at 10 yards, usually with my primary hand. I might shoot one magazine weak hand a month.

I don't generally practice shooting at man-shaped targets, but rather at small (c. 4") targets. I feel this would translate adequately to helping me place my shots where I wanted on a "meat target," should, God forbid, that be necessary. Were I facing an attacker armed only with my P32, I'd shoot for the "thoracic triangle," then for the "raccoon mask" if that didn't work. "Gut shots" don't sound like they'd be too effective in stopping an attacker, fwiw.

mak, I practice with both hands with my bug (a Kahr P9) as well as my primary carry gun. Practice your gun handling as well off handed as well as your draws with either hand. We shoot for the big part first, whatever that is.

Erich, friends don't let friends carry mouseguns. Get a bigger gun, my friend.:)

Oh, you're only too right, Tejon, and I appreciate the concern! :) While I used to be the king of the mouseguns (actually collected them and always wanted one on me), I realized years ago how little they would actually damage anything.

Goldenloki's site convinced me that a .32 fmj out of a P32 might actually penetrate enough to be worthwhile, so I got a P32 and I load it with feisty hardball. It still doesn't get used much, though, because I don't like to go below a 9x19 (and often something heavier).

Let's face it, though, one is infinitely better off with a carbine . . . they just draw odd looks. :)

I always assumed that I would aim at the top half of the torso and maybe the head/neck. Below the ribcage are some important organs but they may not cause instant death or make an attacker cease. The heart and CNS may be harder to hit but I think it is worth it to at least aim in these areas with a mouse gun.

I don't worry about accuracy too much because I doubt I would shoot anyone with a mouse gun unless they were really close to me. I think that beyond 10', you could run or think of another solution.

I practice one-handed with my strong hand, and two-handed. I practice at very short range. I pull the trigger at fast as my front sight gets back on target, and keep firing until gun is empty.

Erich, I advise caution on the "how little they damage anything" idea. Several years ago one of my uncles was killed in a robbery with one shot from a 22 long (not long rifle) solid point out of a cheap german revolver. Regardless of what you hear or read they are deadly and will end your life, if you have doubts I'll be glad to take you to the grave site if your ever in Dallas.

i would be Very concerned if someone were pointing a "puny" .32acp at my guts.

back in the 50's, i read where more murders were commited with .25acp than any other caliber. so, who knows.

i do believe in big calibers tho. i want ppl to die right now, not two days away.

what would i rather be shot with? not even a BB gun.

How do I practice with my mousegun?

Poorly and clumsily, but with a great deal of glee. :p

We hear of an unfortunate woman who, during an nighttime asthma attack, confused the small handgun she kept under her pillow with an asthma inhaler and proceeded to relieve her symptoms. It was not a fatal mistake, partly because she used a .25 ACP, which everyone knows is not sufficient to clear sinuses. -- Jeff Cooper

I split practice between my strong & weak side when shooting my Jetfire even tho I usually carry it strong side.

Whenever I'm at the range changing targets

I'll pull the mouse out of my pocket and let off a magazine full of loads, usually at 3 to 7 yds into the target I'm changing. Load up another mag, drop the mouse back into my pocket. My club allows downrange fireing as long as you don't shoot the other members or guests. It's considerd polite to inform anyone else on the line when you are going to this and to refrane from shooting while someone else is changing targets:D
I do this nearly every time I shoot a rifle or carbine.
BTW: My 'Mice' are a .22LR loaded with hypervel HP's and a .380
:p The .45ACP's on the CCW too, but a mouse it isn't;)

No worries, Gerald (tho thanks for the concern), I've worked on a few murder cases involving .22s. I'm sorry about your uncle.

I recognize that mouseguns are quite capable of stopping (and, indeed, killing) people, I am just concerned that they may don't reliably do so. (Frankly, handguns in general aren't so hot with that: "If you know that trouble is on the evening's entertainment list, with few exceptions you are better served with a rifle or shotgun. Sometimes, however, a pistol is all you will have when the show starts." - Gabe Suarez.) You see, I've also worked on a number of cases where folks were shot with mouseguns and kept operating - including a case I was telling Tejon about where a .25 took off a fellow's, erm, left cojon. :what: That had to hurt, but he didn't stop ticking . . . .

Again, very sorry about your uncle. :(

No problem, it was quite a few years ago. Pisser is my uncle had already given the perp his money (he was a bus driver with a load of people) when he was shot. Guy plead the fact that the gun went off accidentlly and hit my uncle in the head from about 10ft, the jury gave him 25 years and he was out in 12.
