I have a couple of boxes of factory ammo in a caliber for which I have no gun, and there does not seem an easy way to ship it from NJ if I were to sell it on Gunbroker.

USPS is not legal and both the FedEx and the UPS stores near me do not want to ship it.:banghead:

My only options are to trade it with my local LGS (will not get much value) or take it to a gunshow in Pennsylvania.

Please do not suggest I should buy a gun in that caliber and shoot it.:uhoh:

Go directly to FedEx or UPS depot's customer counter, not to a storefront. The storefronts are franchises, and make their own rules to a large extent.

Box it up securely and put the required "ORM-D" sticker on there. (I think you can print them up online.)

If you don't have a depot near you, it's possible that you could get one or the other to do a pickup at your home -- I believe that costs extra, though.

Put it in a box, slap an ORM-D sticker on it, address it, take it to a HUB. Easy, peasy.

According to Title 49 CFR in Chapter 1, section 173.63 "the packaging exceptions to full regulation. Under that section, (b) cartridges, small arms, may be reclassed, and offered for transportation, and transported as ORM--D material when packaged in accordance with paragraph (b)(2) of this section; such transportation is excepted from the requirements of subparts E (Labeling) of part 172 of this subchapter."

Keep the ammo in its original packaging and wrap it securely with foam or bubble wrap to prevent any movement during transit.

Use a sturdy cardboard box and tape it securely.

Mark the outside with a ORM-D, Cartridges, Small Arms label. Put the ORM-D label on at least three sides of the package. This is acceptable for .50 caliber or less or 8 gauge or less. Affix the ORM-D label next to the shipping label, ensuring the UPS employee handling the parcel will know where to properly direct it.

You could also call Fedex Dangerous Goods Department and they will walk you through the necessary steps, including setting up a pickup account, so the nice man will walk up to your front door and take the package from you. They will bill you in a few days. Pay with a credit card or mail them a check. Very simple.

Neither Fedex nor UPS really want to handle ammo, even at a hub is what I've found. Neither has a problem picking up ammo from your home however. This is part of their security deal.

They have no problem shipping ammo at a UPS hub, as long as you have educated the employees about their company policies. No FFL is needed to ship or receive small arms ammo.

I've had good service from our local and been refused at the franchise downtown. I always carry a printed copy of the UPS rules allowing such shipment in with me, but haven't had to show it yet.

Most shipments I have received (none?) did not have the ORMD label on three sides of the package. That is one rule which I had forgotten.

bushmaster1313, go check the carriers web sites. They will accept ammo for shipment if properly marked and if taken to one of their main locations. You can call them and they will tell you where to take ammo where they will ship it for you.

a more important question would be... what caliber is it. :D
