Which is of course why you gave us two marks of A- for juvenile possession and transfer laws.
Yep, though we can buy and possess all of the pre-and-post ban rifles and mags we want, we are just waiting for September 14, 2004 to roll around before the great "assault weapon" shootout in the streets of Oregon. Nice to see you folks doing your part to keep adult diapers on the shelves.
Then where'd our past "F" go?
Ah yes, the feel good and ineffectual measures passed post Columbine. Hadn't noticed them stopping any private transactions that weren't at gun shows.
While children dying from any reason is regrettable, since none of that proposed legislation is going to happen, can we please have our "F" back? An F from you certainly stands for "Freedom." Letting you handwringers have your way would be the only "Failure."
Sincerely--well not really.

Oregon gun laws again received a C- because it does a mediocre job of protecting children from gun violence.
Which is of course why you gave us two marks of A- for juvenile possession and transfer laws.
Gun violence in the state could increase because the federal assault weapon ban will expire this year if Congress does not reauthorize it and Oregon has no state law restricting assault weapons or high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Oregon does not hold adults responsible for leaving loaded guns around children, does not require child-safety locks to be sold with guns, and does not have any handgun safety standards. Oregon also forces police to let people carry hidden handguns in public, including Oregon schools.

On a positive note, Oregon does regulate the sale or possession of guns by kids and does require background checks at gun shows.

In 2001, the most recent year for which data is available, 17 children and teenagers in Oregon died from gunfire. Oregon can improve its grade next year by banning assault weapons, requiring child-safety locks to be sold with guns to prevent unintentional shooting, holding adults responsible if they leave loaded guns around children and allowing school districts to ban hidden guns. Unfortunately, 31 states received grades of D or F in this year’s report card.
