How good is a Simmons scope?

I replaced the factory Simmons on my savage .17 with a BSA and never looked back.

Simmons wouldn't keep zero. No probs with the BSA (and for the record, my REAL rifles have REAL scopes on them...the .17 is a toy)

Have never owned a BSA or a Barska,(have shot several rifles with BSAs) but would buy either before buying another Simmons.
My guess is; had I owned the others and not a few Simmons, my statement would have been reversed?

Simmons

I have a Simmons scope on a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington and I use another Simmons scope on my AR-15 occasionally. Neither has given me any problems. They are not as sexy as the Leupolds I have on two other rifles, but I think they are a decent value.

I'm considering getting a Simmons hand gun scope to try a scout type set up on a Yugo Mauser I have.

"So,my Simmons really IS a POS,it's just that I'm too dumb to realize it?"

No, you know what you have. But, do you realize how lucky you have been...so far?

I have a buddy who bought a 6-18x Atec for his Ruger 17 HMR, against my advice. That's NOT a heavy recoiler! It shot well and he was greatly pleased for some three years but then his groups started growing. He fought bore cleaning, bedding, mount/ring screws for a year but the groups kept growing, eventually to about 6 MOA. I loaned him an an old Weaver 10x and his groups immediately went back to sub-MOA. And, even when it worked, the barrel distortion was bad, especially strong around the edges.

Have seen exactly the same thing to some degree in every BSA I've been exposed to.
