Sorry folks, no offense to anyone. My brother sent me this and I found quite funny.

12 REASONS WHY HANDGUNS ARE BETTER THAN WOMEN

1. You can buy a silencer for a handgun.
2. You can trade in your .44 for two .22's
3. You can have a handgun for home and one for traveling
4. If you admire your friend's handgun and tell him so, he will be impressed and let you try it out.
5. Your primary handgun doesn't mind if you have a backup.
6. Your handgun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.
7. A handgun does not take up a lot of closet space.
8. Handguns function normally every day of the month.
9. Handguns won't ask: "Do these grips make me look fat?"
10. A handgun doesn't mind if you go to sleep right after using it.
11. A handgun doesn't care how big your trigger finger is.
12. A handgun won't complain if you are a little fast on the draw.

Yes, we need to protect women's delicate sensibilities from any semblance of humor at their expense, and... oh wait... is that engaging in patronizing stereotyping of women?

:neener:

Anyway, that list is an oooooooold joke. Personally, I'd like to hear the female counterpart to it. Between Runt and Tamara and everyone else, I'm sure the double-X chromosome set can come up with a sutible response. ;)

What next, then, Sean?

How guns are better than blacks? (maybe, hey, a gun actually works most of the time?)

Or how guns are better than cripples?

The concept is NOT about protecting the sensibilities of women.

It's about making them feel WELCOME in what many women, blacks, etc., view as a white man's sport.

9. Handguns won't ask: "Do these grips make me look fat?"

Nina does  Silly Beretta!!! :p

"Skunky, does this carbon fiber make me look fat??"
"No dear, slim grips on a Beretta are like a Diet Coke after a Big Mac...."

I'm a woman and I said it was cute...;) Yes, it's not in the best of taste but he did say he didn't mean to cause offense and it was just funny. I could think of a few jokes myself regarding men but I don't -- so it was poor judgement on his part but I have better things to do than get upset over something so trival.

Mike,

The slippery slope you are appealing to is a logical fallacy.

If this bugs you so much, ask one of the female moderators to killfile it.

I just find it a little funny that we are on a forum where we often talk about the necessity of killing people, but somebody cracks a joke and it is somehow beyond the pale.

Mastrogiacomo,

You must be swooning from the thuggish excuse for "humor," madam, please take refuge under your parasol until the miscreant is given the what-for...

Slippery slope, Sean, or a common sense?

Why should we go out of our way to alienate potential allies? Do you enjoy shooting yourself in the proverbial foot just because it's fun?

There are a lot of either on the fence women and ethnics who could fall either way on the issue. But with crap like this, is it really any wonder sometimes why the shooting sports don't attract more ethnic minorities and more women?

Or is it a conscious decision on our part to KEEP the Plantation mentality when it comes to the shooting sports?

If you want to get a REALLY good feel for what I'm talking about, get in touch with the director of Women's Issues at NRA sometime, and ask to see the files of letters from women who have been made to feel unwelcome, and much, much, worse, at shooting ranges, competitive events, etc.

Sometimes our worst enemy is staring back from the mirror in the morning.
