How Long will the Garand Be offered?

With permission from the wife to get a garand now not an issue, I was wondering if anyone knew how long CMP will be offering them, AS its going to take me just a little amount of time to save up for one and also jump through the hoops of becoming a member of a CMP affiliated group and all. I think I might go for the service grade instead of the rack or field grade. One more thing, Whats so special about the H&R M1 garands? I thought springfield was the only producer of the garand.

Oh and one LAST thing, what are the odds of me ordering one, and having it be a "made during the war" rifle?

Excuse my ignorance. I don't know too much about the process of acquiring one.

Sound's like you should go to the local fun (gun) show and see what you can find. I picked up a WWII Garand for $825 in great shape. You should take a look around the web at Garand specific web sites and read up as well.

They write $825 on the back of the CMP's "Rack Grade" tags at gunshows around here.

If you want a WWII era rifle, just ask them for one.

Only as long as the CMP has any left.......

Seriously Scott... that's not meant to be a joke, it's just that there is no way to predict how long the CMP's current supply will last... if or when they may find another source (unlikely), or if the next seat warmer in the Oval Office will find a way to shut them down with the stroke of a pen.

I'd suggest finding a way to get your order in to the CMP in time for it to be filled before next January 20th.

Re manufacturers of the M1 rifle: SA made most of them during WWII, about 3.5 million, along with about 1/2 mil made by Winchester. During the Korean conflict SA mad another 1/2 mil. So did Harrington & Richardson (approx 1/2 mil.) and International Harvester ( approx 4/10 mil.).

All are good rifles, and most of the WWII era versions have been through at LEAST one or more arsenal rebuilds. It's common on WWII rifles to find that the only original remaining part is the receiver. Everything else has been replaced at least once.

There have been rumors floating around that the Phillippines and Viet Nam have Lend Lease M1s and these may come back.

As for reality, nobody, not even the top officials of the CMP, can predict when they may run out of M1 Garands for good.

The CMP hoops aren't hard. The most difficult is evidence of marksmanship activty--this can be met in a number of 'already done that' ways (ie. dd 214, C/R type 3 ffl, etc). Most places on the 'club' list with fax or email you membership verification post-haste when the check clears.

So how much do y'all think I could get for my service grade HRA Garand? How much do you see them selling for at shows? Selling, not sitting the table.

I was actually thinking about selling a couple of mine in favor of either getting a nicer CMP rifle or getting a refurbished rifle from Garand Guy or something. Either way, something with a new stock and nice new barrel.

Remember, President Hillary and a Demoncratic Congress will be in session next year. There is no reason Her Royal Hillary won't write an Executive Order banning forever the importation of Lend Lease Garands.

And of course, our "Good Friends the Republicans" did nothing to remove Clinton V1.0's antigun Executive Orders, and probably never will.
