how many Ak mags should an AK owner have? i have a SGL20 with 4 bulgarian steel mags and 3 romanian steel mags. should i have more? and which are the best steel mags??? me, i like the feel of the romanian steel. nice and thick with good finish.

Depends on what you want to do with the rifle.

Sov issue was 4 mags. I like to have at least 8 for each rifle with 2 spares in case of damage. My current shooting rig is set up for either 8 AK mags or 12 AR mags, which weight just about the same.

Go shoot some run and gun type matches and/or take a class. You'll learn what works for you. BSW

1 more..........always, 1 more.

Seriously, I think I have 13, some of which are 40 rounders. When I find a really good deal I'll buy more, like always.

Well, I've got 8 AK mags and I don't even own an AK! Been planning to buy one for awhile now. Anyway, if I eventually buy an AK, I'll likely buy a lot more mags for fear of them getting banned again. Probably at least 15-20. I have 50-60 mags for my ARs, for instance.

None, just single feed.

Just wanted to be different. :p

On a more serious note, I'd pick up more when I found a good deal on em'...never hurts to have more, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy loads of them real quick. Any of the Commie steel mags are good IME. Even the Commie bakelite and Tapco polymer mags seem to do just fine.

:)

Figure out how many have failed in the last couple years and average that through the rest of your expected life span. With that formula I need about 2 mags for the rest of my life.

I have 2 and feel that's planty. I'm not doing anything where I need more than 60 rounds without time to reload a mag. If one fails I may pick up another. That's more than enough for me.

Well, I have a dozen, but like HGUNHNTR said, 2 would probably last me the rest of me life, lol. I usually just take 3 to the range and that's plenty.

I have 12. Had six steel ones and yesterday bought six more at a gun show since they were $10 apiece. Most are in very good condition but two are pretty beat up (though work). Believe all of them are Romanian. As was said above that's too many to carry loaded but I like the idea of spares. Now to test out the ones I just bought!

the question is how many trucks should i fill with magazines before i feel better lol

my answer at least 4(trucks that is)

You only 'need' one (maybe two).

I own way more than I can carry. I figured 50 was a nice round number. Of course they used to be dirt cheap.

I do like to bring at least 10 or 15 to the range. I really hate loading mags at the range and always try to own enough for a gun so that I'm able to load all the ammo I'll need sometime before I go. Generally 300rds per rifle is plenty for a day at the range.

Combloc steel AK mags are well-nigh indestructible, unlike AR mags which were originally designed to be disposable. As a result, a handful of steel AK mags will probably serve you the rest of your life.

I think I have about ten mags for mine, 8 of which are "serious" mags (Hungarian 20-rounders, Romanian 30-rounders, and a single Romanian 40-round RPK mag), and 2 are reduced-capacity hunting mags (one 5-rounder and one 10-rounder). I use the 20's the most, with the 30's in second place; the RPK mag is a little on the heavy and awkward side.

Do you remember the AWB? That convinced me to keep a lot of mags on hand at all times.
