To all wheelgun lovers out there....

I ask this because when i take a look at my personal range report, I get an average of about 200-250 rounds of .357/.38 spcl three times a month at the gun range...

How much ammo have you used up with your wheelgun? is 200-250 rounds every week bad for your wheelgun? Have you experienced any malfunctions yet whatsoever? (defective ammo is exuseable)

Thanks for sharing your range report and experiences in advance.
Appreciate it!

Happy & Safe shooting to all!

Mr. Magnum - I don't personally own a revolver, although my fiancee does. Collectively, we've shot a few hundred rounds through it since she bought it a few months ago. Most revolvers, especially modern ones will go through thousands upon thousands of rounds without an issue. They're made of pretty strong stuff, for the most part.

Heck, if you really want to see a man who puts his wheelguns through their paces, have a look at this - http://youtube.com/watch?v=uisHfKj2JiI

That's Jerry Miculek, one of the world's fastest revolver shooters. He goes through tens of thousands of rounds per year in his practices, and while I'm sure his guns need some fine tuning from time to time, it goes to show you how robust the guns being made today really are.

Jerry Miculek estimated that after shooting competitively for 24 years, and counting his primer boxes, he has shot an estimated 800,000 rounds of ammunition, most of that through revolvers. The article is a few years old, so it is probably more than that.

IME a typical .38 special revolver will go 50,000-100,000 rounds if cleaned and lubricated regualry

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I got my wheelgun (686+)this past Feb, and shoot it 2x per week, for a total of about 4200rds through it so far. I do my best work with .357's, so I normally shoot 2 boxes of those, and 2 or 3 boxes of .38 in a session. I got a couple more guns recently though, so I'll prolly go a little easier on the wheelgun.

I had a S&W 10 that I shot with VERY hot handloads. Damn thing broke a hammer spring after 30,000 rounds.............Just don't make them like they used to.:evil:

Lets do it this way. Gun the rounds fired. I will only post fired guns, not the safe queens.

The only one that has been back for repairs is the diamondback. 3 times for timing, broken bolt spring and screw heads. I have too many guns now to put that many rounds down any one gun so I doubt I will ever break a gun again.

:what:
What I find most impressive is that you so carefully logged every round fired. I don't even have that accurate of an accounting of my bank account! :D

I load and shoot about 5,000 rounds a year of .38 Special wadcutters. That's my standard practice, plinking, small game load for my .357s and for my Colt Detective Special.

I'd say I've probably loaded and fired a hundred thousand or so rounds of that load over the years.

STS3,

As a scientist, it is hard not to want to quantify everything so I can figure out if I am doing better or worse. As a reloader, I track every round, how it was fired, what gun, how I cleaned the gun, when I shot it last etc, etc, etc.

No experiment is worth doing if it is not properly documented because if you don't you will have to do it over again when you forget you already did it.

(don't ask me how I know that......)

Well, for what three months of data is worth...

I purchased my S&W 351PD in May. Since then I've put about 1,200 rounds through it.

(Like you I shoot 200 to 300 rounds per session, and shoot about three times per month. The range I go to sells the cardboard box of ten 50-count boxes of CCI .22 Magnum JHP for $90. I'm about halfway through my third of these large boxes.)

The pistol has no signs of wear-and-tear. The only problem is that on a few occasions primer powder has gotten under the extractor, which keeps the cylinder from closing until I wipe that area clean.

I do clean the gun after each shooting session.
