It seems darn near every state has a different acronym for their concealed weapons permit. In Michigan it's known as a CPL (Concealed Pistol License). I wonder how many different initialisms there are. How about your state?

Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit = THCP
Covers Open or Concealed (and you aren't in violation if the wind blows your jacket open to accidentally reveal the holster or gun).

Otherwise, without a HCP "going armed" for defense outside the home or place of buisness is a violation. "Going armed" for offense is unconditionally a violation.

Florida: CWFL - Concealed Weapon or Firearm License

Yes we get to carry things like knives, billy clubs, brass knuckles, tear gas, OC, TASERs, or most any other type of deadly weapon!

I think that's why Michigan changed from CCW to CPL. It's a license to carry a pistol only. Which, of course, is really stupid. Less lethal devices like Tasers are completely illegal.

Yes, while our CWFL is good in @ 38 states, IIRC,(if you're a FL resident)

in other states it pertains to permission to carry a handgun only. We

also must know and follow the state laws of the state which we're visiting at

the time.

New state (Tennessee): HCP, for Handgun Carry Permit
Old state (Arizona): CWP, for Concealed Weapon Permit
Home state (California):

I liked AZ's because this wording didn't limit you to handguns. Any weapon that was legal to own could be carried concealed.

My Colorado permit says "concealed weapons permit", so I call it a CWP. Doesn't define what "concealed weapons" are though. Generally understood to mean handguns, but I reckon a person could conceal all kinds of weapons. Wonder if it would cover those?

Idaho is Concealed Weapons license.
It covers all concealed weapons, any type, any size.
Knife, SAP, Dirk, handgun, longgun, you name it the Idaho license covers it all.

we call it a pistol permit in Alabama, or at least my county does not sure about the whole state

Which county are you in? My Boulder county permit says "Concealed Handgun Permit".

I do know that Colorado state law prohibits concealing anything other than handguns.

Georgia Firearms License. Guess you can tag it GFL.

Georgia Weapons Carry License, ever since the laws were expanded to include some knives.

And long ago, it was a "Pistol Toter License."

GWCL and PTL.

Used to here in Montgomery Co. as well, but now it says "Pistol License" on it. Many folks still say pistol permit. I know I do.
