How many here have done something at the legislative level?

With all the talk about Anti-Gun Legislation being introduced at the state level, and in Congress, I would like to know how many of you guys/gals at THR have been proactive and tried to get your legislators to introduce specific Pro-Gun legislation in your state, or in Congress? After all we are their Constituents.

Just got back from testifying in support of a bill that would make confiscation of legal firearms during a disaster or civil unrest illegal. Plan on testifying Thursday on one of many "Castle Doctrine" bills introduced this year. Planning on testifying on a bill to ban .50 caliber rifles and "shall-issue" concealed carry when (if, for the CCW) they announce the date. Encouraged, via local internet forum, other gun owners to do the same.
Stood outside a Senator's office last week until he agreed to speak with us about "his" Castle Doctrine bill....Looks like it's going to be a busy legislative session.

I worked with a state rep's administrative assistant to get TN's absurd requirement for thumbprints on all firearm purchases rescinded. Hasn't passed yet but all the winds are blowing right.
I realize it isn't anything dramatic but heck, it's a step in the right direction.

You bet! Emails, letters, personal one-on-one visits, and have attended committee meetings at "the Round House" in Santa Fe. It is an uphill effort in this (currently) blue state, because of the old time inbred politics that go back about 400 years. We (conservative, Second Amendment promoters) have made some progress, and look to keep educating and working towards more sane laws and statutes.

My wife and I are in the VCDL and we do the Lobby days, e-mail campaigns and rallies/protests as needed. We also work the VCDL booth at all the events we possibly can. I wish we could do more.

Thank you for the work on that.

On a lesser scale, I write my Tn. congress people and senators (in my district or not) on a regular basis. I have met with my local rep; who is very pro gun and want to make sure he stays that way.

Now if we could just get those stupid restaurant and posted businesses laws pulled.

Before anyone responds with "a business has the right to dis-allow guns", it is a punishable misdemeanor in Tn. if caught in a posted business, not just a trespass fine if you don't comply.

I would happily accept a trespass rule so we at least have the opportunity to leave. It would give the business the strength to remove you if offended by your firearm (if they see it) and give you the chance to leave witout facing charges. The best of both worlds.

I will continue to write to the reps about these items.

Let's put it this way. When I go to my reps office he tries to get out the back door to avoid listening to me :)

He's pro gun but I probably get on his nerves LOL.

But I donate so he pretends to tolerate me. That's my state rep.

My US Rep hears from me plenty as well, but he's very pro gun so I don't say much other than "Keep Going"

One cool thing about my Reps, we've all met face to face before.

Where I live, there is a crazy parade every July 4th in a tiny town down the road, its kind of weird when your reps can point you out in a crowd during the parade and yell out, "Matt we need to fix that law"... Of course everyone standing around me has a weird look on their face..

LOL

MD, "Absolutely" Good Job!

And to everyone else. Thank You for all that you do! Keep up the good work. We need more people to be involved like yourselves.
