Can anyone tell me how many firearms a person can own without being liscensed.

Too many? Is this a trick question?

My thoughts.... As long as you can feed and take care of them all, you do not have too many.

Not aware of any laws restricting the amount you can own, unless, you are prohibited by law, then one would be "too many"

Ive been told that through the Patriot Act that the only way a person can own more than 15 guns is if they are a dealer or licensed collector.

I've never heard of a requirement to be licensed to own a certain number of firearms, anywhere in the U.S.:scrutiny:

So I guess the answer is "as many as you want to own" like the others have said.

EDIT - I've never heard of such a regulation, Patriot Act or otherwise. Can you tell us where you came across this little piece of misinformation?

I've been told a lot of things...

Imagine the millions of gun owners that would have had to get a "license" in the wake of the patriot act. Millions.

What, in Montana, the average is something like 27 per household. That means for everyone that has one, someone else has a gazillion!

As a rule, Child Protective Service workers don't approve of people having guns around children, so they make up laws as they go along. Ask the person you talked to to give you a copy of this supposed law, or at least a citation (the law's number - each law has one).

The "Show Me" state is filled with people that (a) have children, and (b) have more then 15 firearms in the household. A special license is required for neither.

And you should also have a discussion with this worker's superior or supervisor. Such mis-information shouldn't be tolerated. :banghead:

Check this out. About 20,000 guns, and all belonged to one man. They are in trust to the State of Oklahoma now, in the J M Davis Firearms Museum, Claremore, Oklahoma.

Apart from all of this--no, there is no limit--go ahead and plunk down the 30 bucks and get a type-3 FFL.

Then, when 'do-gooder' thinks they can quote chapter-and-verse of laws that don't exist----you can produce your nice 'Federal License' to make them shut their gob. You can be right and let them know they are dead WRONG--or, you can have things go YOUR way at days end.

Certain types of fools are fools who have authority and no one likes to have their nose rubbed in the truth--especially the world's petty tyrants.
Sometimes, you pick your battles--and for 30 bucks you too can become an FFL-3; a bona-fide collector with a suitable-for-framing fed-gov document that impresses the most numb skulled and leaves them feeling warm and fuzzy about the fact that you own 15 + guns, etc.

I'm a little confused, however here in USA we do not have restrictions on the size of your collection. Its a wonderful thing. Now to answer kinda silly like its never enough if your a collector, a fellow range officer I know has over 600 guns and 4 of the big browning safes. And has finally come to terms with the fact that he is never going to shoot all of them. He has some that are very rare and some that are just kinda sought after but have never been shot.
