I have at least 4 people in my circle that bought their first gun this fall, which strangely enough coincides with the election.

I am wondering how much the "new gun owners" have contributed to the shortage of ammo?

This might sound stupid to some, but this could be a good thing, I think we have really added to our RKBA numbers. at least, I hope so.

Can anyone who works in a gunshop tell us how many first-time gun buyers they have sold to?

I know a lot of new gun owners and people that plan to become gun owners in the near future. But I think that it is more due to the fact that I am in my 20s and the people I know are also in their 20s, so the option to buy guns is a relatively new concept for them. I imagine if I was in my 30s or 40s, I wouldn't know as many new gun owners. I could be wrong.

All of my friends either already own guns or may not own guns.
I try to avoid the company of such people, but to each his own. I suppose in your line of work it is easier to befriend someone in that situation.

My 12 year old nephew and his dad. Josh got a bolt action 22 and a 20 ga shotgun for Christmas, and his dad got a 10-22. It had nothing to do with the election, though. We've been teaching Josh how to shoot for a couple of years, even took him to Whittington in 2007 for the THR get together.

He's hooked. Josh and his dad have been over here (free, convenient shooting range) every nice weekend day since Christmas. They've gone through at least four bricks of 22lr and almost 100 rounds of shotgun ammo so far.

Next step; Josh will be going to watch an IPSC match with us soon, but he doesn't know it yet. ;)

I don't know any new gun owners. Regarding the election, every anti-gun person I know has the RKBA ranked about 51 on their priorities list. They just don't think about it. Yes, I'm actually good friends with some anti-gun people. They were by my side in the hospital. Nobody here was, just sayin'.

Since the election,Ive had two ladies, neither of which had ever owned any gun,ask me "what they need". One (so far) owns her first firearm, and the other is still "deciding what's best for her".
On the long time "gunowners" end, have recently "steered" two long time bolt rifle shooters into ARs..and they seem to be very happy with their decisions.
I think the ammo "shortage" can be somewhat contributed to new owners, but I think the "established" folks (buying all they think they need) are the biggest reason for the temporary "shortage."

I don't blame the shortage on newbie's I blame it on all of these people who insist that they NEED 300+ AR magazines and 20,000+ rounds of .223/5.56 and anything else they can get their hands on. it makes it difficult for those of us on a budget to get anything. Not all of us have 6 figure jobs or are doctors who can buy $20,000 worth of firearms and ammo a year, despite having a college education etc. Right now most of us are lucky to have jobs as the economy is bad and is getting worse.

I know 2 or 3 students at school have recently become gun owners.

I saw them lined up to join the NRA & the CSSA & the CCRKBA at the last gun show I went to .
