How many of you car carry regardless if you have a ccw permit or not?
I am 18 and my setup is simple a S&W pre-model 10 in .38 special with 4 inch barrel in a snapped holster under the passenger seat easy to grab and get ready within a few seconds.

And I sometimes bring a speed loader with it 158 grain hollow points.I conceal carry a folder knife by Kabar with a 3 1/8 inch blade its adequate for defense but I prefer a good gun.
All legal in Florida checked it thoroughly and read the great book by Mr Gutmacher Orlando criminal attorney on Florida gun laws and knife laws.

If you're asking if people here carry illegally, that's generally not something that's discussed on THR.

That said, I have a permit so I'm good no matter what but in Colorado carrying a weapon in your vehicle is completely legal.

Some states allow car carry regardless of CCW possession.

No folding knife, or knife period, is "adequate for defense". If you have to put force into an attacker, you want to deliver it at a distance. Come hang out in NonFirearm Weapons a bit. :)

I'm probably going to carry a Smith 4053 in my "new" vehicle. My "old" vehicle still has a Taurus 431 .44 Special.

when I say adequate I mean better than a fist.
If I had a CCW permit I would carry a good Glock or the .38 I have.

I have a CCW and in Nevada you CAN,in some 'areas' carry 'in your vehicle' also.I have a gun safe mounted in the center column of my truck with a 'security alarm system' attached.I keep either a SP 101 or my BUG XD .40 compact, extra ammo and mags. When at home all is removed and safely stored away until the next day or trip.

I carry at least two handguns, including my CHL pistol, and a rifle in all my vehicles and have for many years.

In Texas you can have a loaded handgun, rifles and shotguns in your vehicle without a CHL.

I have a CWP. Besides my normal body carry I have a dedicated car pistol in an attatched open top holster below the seat.

how many car carry

I live in South Carolina and my state allows car carry as long as the firearm is in the glove box, console or trunk. It just has to be in some closed compartment.

S&W 640 snubbie in the center console whether I'm carrying or not. Now the wife has the truck in Vegas and it's nice knowing she has it with her.

Yeah, good thing as of late (especially in Vegas)...my wife, driving the other truck with the console safe, carry's her P94,XD 45,or her Kimber Ultra Carry 2.Never leaves home without her carry and BUG's.

Depends on what state I'm in. If legal, I have a BUG in the glove box plus my CCW on my person. If I happen to be in a state that it's illegal (I travel for my job) I have a safe bolted to the floor of the trunk.

NC car carry (without a CHP) is a gray area. Its legal, but cant be concealed and readily accessible. The definition of "concealed" is a gray area, some officers feel it should be left on the dash:rolleyes:, but for the most part if they can see it when they approach the car they dont have a problem with it. Mine was normally in a holster stuffed between my seat and console.

I did it for years before I got my CHP. I still car carry pretty frequently in addition to my carry gun since carrying IWB doesnt do a whole lot of good if I would get carjacked or find myself in any other scenario where I would have to draw while in my seat, with my seatbelt on, and my carry gun under my shirt... The car gun is just easier to get to.

Like snow said, car carry is legal in SC, so it is with me all the time I am travelling. I do have a CWP, so it is on my hip anytime I leave my vehicle. Since I live close to NC, I also car carry there - concealed since they recognize my CWP.

Car Carry

In Mississippi anyone may have a handgun in their vehicle at any time, no permit needed.

In Texas, the hand gun MUST be concealed or out of plain sight.
Long guns do NOT have to be covered. Many are carried in racks or on the seat in plain view.
Only the hand guns need to be covered.

In KY, you can have a gun in the glove box with no permit! But not in a center console. KY is also an open carry state, so it can be on the seat or on top of the console, just not covered.

After you have the permit, you can mount a concealed gun in the car. I just got my permit, and will be installing a cheapy holster, between the console and drivers seat tomorrow, by the way. My truck gun, is going to be THE JUDGE, with speedloaders in the console right next to it.

My carry is usually a 9mm semi auto, backed up by a 9mm revolver (yes they are Taurus guns too).

IMO, anyone who carries ILLEGALLY is just asking to go to prison. not jail, prison. not very smart. it just isn't worth it! i had an uncle who spent some time in prison. the horor stories he told me set me on the straight and narrow! and i am sure he didnt tell me the really bad ones.

Texas Specific

I have read that some Texas Cty Aty's are ignoring TX law and have issued orders to hassle citizens carrying firearms in vehicles... Just be aware..

In VA you can have a firearm in plain sight either on your person or car without a permit. Before I got my CCW I just sat it on the passenger seat unless I was already OCing.

In addition to my usual CCW that rides on my hip, I generally keep a rifle in the trunk. Right now there are actually an AR and an AK in my trunk.
