I have read that some Texas Cty Aty's are ignoring TX law and have issued orders to hassle citizens carrying firearms in vehicles... Just be aware..
Why is this still coming up?

The law that went into effect September 2007 SPECIFICALLY addresses this.

It was written just for these prosecutors who have done such a great job at ignoring the previous laws on the subject.

Jedwi, have you heard of this happening since September 2007, or is this stuff you've heard from "in the past"?

The Harris County DA, Chuck Rosenthal, was notorious for ignoring the "traveling" law. Even after it was "clarified". He did not resign until Feb. 2008.

In Texas you can have a loaded handgun, rifles and shotguns in your vehicle without a CHL.

Provided they are concealed, which I too do.

Long guns do not have to be concealed.

I keep at least one handgun (on my person) and one rifle (in my trunk) in my vehicle, and I also always have body armor in my trunk and I often keep a second handgun in my glove box.

The handgun in my glove box, when it is there, is always a loaded CZ-52 with the hot loaded stuff. If I'm trying to down somebody and my handgun isn't doing the job, and I cannot get a head shot in, that means A- they are wearing armor and B- I need to become a better shot.

But until I can get to my trunk, or assuming I cannot get there, I'll have to rely on the CZ-52.

I also keep 260 round of 7.62x39mm in my vehicle, along with about 30 rounds of 9mm (in spare mags, for my pistol), and a box of 7.62x25 ammo.

wish i could, most of the time i am in the car i am either driving to work, thats in new jersy, which is a no no ,or the kids are with me,we have a ,sorry to say, mini van, lol, not really any place thats hidden enough from the little onesin my old truck i always carried my sg tho, used to do some lite hunting before workon job sites

I always have my gun in the car. I've had too many threatening incidents happen while driving or parking not to.

New Mexico - your car is the same as your home - carry what you will, as you wish. Aint't it great to be free! Hoping the rest of the country that is not now free, will soon have that opportunity. :)

Montana has no restrictions on having a gun in your vehicle, openly or concealed. If traveling locally I have a pistol, if traveling any distance away from home or work I'll throw an AK in the trunk with 3or 4 mags.

I have "car carried" for 30 years now. If I needed a CCW permit to do so, I got one. NEVER had an issue with the police and I have had interaction with them while carrying in 2 different states (Louisiana and Virginia).

It's certainly not legal in New York. I do however have a concealed permit.

I carry while in a vechile, but NEVER-EVER leave a weapon unattended
(for fear of theft) inside the same~!

I very much agree. Theft from vehicles is a BIG part of the reason the bad guys can get guns.

And, quite frankly I don't think a gun in the glove box, especially a holstered one as stated in the original post, will realistically ever do you much good. The time it would take to release a weapon from the box and a holster into an applicable firing position while seated in a vehicle is likely too be far too long to handle any threat that might logically arise in that situation.

And before I get flamed for that.. I'm not saying there aren't possible exceptions. If you're behind a wheel though, most of time the best course of action is to drive away from a situation if need be. If you can't drive away , then as I said, it's probably too late for a gun kept in that condition. A person should certainly be prepared for that situation, but perhaps the well tucked away gun isn't the right tool for that particular job.
