How many of you have an assault rifle

I don't have an assault rifle. By definition, an assault rifle is select fire (switches between self-loading and full-auto or burst fire).

Since no new assault rifles have been legally available to civilians since 1986, the few that are currently in the hands of collectors are VERY expensive, when available at all. They've been banned for 22 years.

I do have a self-loader built using most of the same engineering and specs. It doesn't shoot full-auto or burst.

i own a few rifles that THE MEDIA "CALLS ASSAULT RIFLES"
1 i use for downrange fun i shoot paper with it
the outher i shoot short range just fun plinking because its cheap 2 shoot i normally throw about 10 coke cans out on my range and see if i can shoot about an inch under them and watch them fly up in the air loads of fun!my point is i have these rifles i'm not running some kinda radical anti-gov training camp

If you fill out a form 1 and pay the $200 tax and then the $$$$$ for the firearm. You can in most places have a full automatic firearm.

People, we will never win this fight when so called gun owners can't use the terms correctly. You do us no good when you help the Brady's of this world in your miss-use of terms and meanings.

I dont have an assault rifle, I have a DPMS lopro classic, a 1 inch target heavy barreled semi-auto rifle made in carbine size, with no dust cover or forward assist, its a target rifle.
I have a stainless steel mini-14 with a synthetic folding stock, H&K flash suppressor and a few other features including 30 rd magazines, but it is a ranch rifle, again, not an assault rifle.
I seem to recall the shooting that is being referred to was done with an illegal fully automatic AK-47, not a legally owned and possessed AK styled semi-auto rifle.
Every 39 minutes a drunk driver is involved in an accident in the US, yet someone always focuses on a single event that rarely happens, and makes it all about the shape, cosmetic design, or style of firearm involved illegally in a crime. We should focus on the fact that a legally owned and purchased firearm rarely or never is involved with the commition of a crime.

Ban criminals, ban crimes, ban illegal actions, but protect our legal gun ownership, or crime will only get alot worse.

Can someone tell me what the correct term for this type of rifle is? The so called "assault style", or "Civilian assault", or whatever names that people give them that are offending so many people out there. I've been looking into a lot of these semi-auto rifles that are designed to "look like" war weapons, but when I post in a forum to ask people about them, I have no idea what to call them so that people are not offended. So i just dont even ask the question I want to ask. Because, as it is clear in this topic, the guy who posted can not get the answer he wants because he posted the question the wrong way according to so many of the people in here. So out of curiosity, what is the correct term for a Semi-Auto rifle, of the AK, AR, Etc... Style?

I only wish I could afford an assault rifle, let alone two or more. The cheapest I've seen are from BRP but they fire a pistol cartridge so I would count them out. I wish I had $10,000 to spend on such a thing.

Now I do own a Mini-14, a Mini-30 and a SUB-2000 but they are all semi-automatic.

We need to do a better job educating people because it seems like there is a large influx of the curious and uninformed joining the THR.
Perhaps there should be a little sub forum you must read, before you can post anywhere else, that could explain these terms.
