As mentioned in at least 2 other threads my M&P pistol developed an issue with the mag release. Today I will install the new mag release and it will go back to being my regular carry gun.

Tomorrow I will be taking it to the range to "test fire it" and confirm that the new mag release did what it was suppose to do.

The confidence issue I have is that the origianal issue did not show up until about 650 rounds in. So this mag release could fail at that same point and I would not know until I get there. I would love to go to the range and put 1000rounds through it in one day and see how it works. BUT the checking account does not allow for these things.

So, at what point after a gun repair does your confidence in the gun come back?

For the record most of the people who have posted with the same issue with the M&P's have had great luck with the replacement release.

It depends on how thoroughly I understand what caused the issue.

If I can clearly see exactly what went wrong and how it was fixed, I may return to my pre-failure level of trust after firing one magazine without incident.

If I'm not really sure what was going on and have just made some educated guesses about what to fix, I may never trust the gun again, though I'll probably be okay with it after 200 rounds or so without incident.

I agree with what JesseL has said.

Also, you want to consider how the results have been for the other people who have used the same fix to repair their problems. If the success rate has been 100% (and that could be 10,000 rounds of experience or more), then that information would hold some weight in my opinion too.

I would say 2 boxes of ammo if I knew exactly what was wrong and exactly how how it was fixed, but if I don't grasp exactly what was wrong and how it was fixed, I might not ever trust it again either.

I just replaced the release, very easy and it functions with empty mag and full mag. We will see how it handles recoil later this week. I agree with the idea of being able to trust it more if you know what the issue is.

The slide mounted safety is the only major difference.

Bingo!

X rounds in one range session don't mean much beyond culling the jam-o-matics.

I gain confidence after its been actually carried and the carry ammo fired at the range with increasing intervals between firings to learn about creep and round settling issues in the mags that can lead to failures.

On a new gun, a 1000 rounds is my minimum. On something I have fixed.....200 (which is a usual range trip) but I'm still skeptical until probably 500 rounds or more through the fixed gun after of course the initial 1000.
