Three weeks ago we had our first IPSC meet here at the River Falls Sportsmen’s Club. We are the newest USPSA Club in the US. I shot at our first match and was so hooked! I decided that if I was going to be serious about competing it would be smart to join the USPSA. I sent them my $40 a week ago and called them today to get my number.

My club is having a match once a month; our next match is on the 23rd of May. Starting on the 20th of May I am planning on shooting at the Oakdale gun club’s weekly IPSC match. That means that for the rest of the summer I will be shooting on average 5 times per months plus any Saturdays that I want to go to the range and shoot my other guns. How do you decide what matches to shoot at? What about special tournaments do you usually do your regular weekly shoot plus hit all of the special matches or do you just go to the regular weekly matches?

I am planning on shooting at the Iowa Invitational in Osceola, IA over Memorial Day weekend. Let me know if any of you are going to be there. I always enjoy meeting other THR members.

2x a month. Any more and I start to feel like shooting runs my weekends......

I have a very demanding job which takes most of my time all week. When I have beer and a hot girlfirend waiting on the weekends, it's hard to spend all the time dry firing and getting to bed early just to be "serious".

Not that it would be bad. I used to shoot at least 4 a month, but then it started to feel more like work and less than fun.

So........shoot all you want and don't worry about anyone else. When it's no longer fun....stop.

Well it depends on the time of year.
This month will and has gone like this.

1st sat. 50 shot reduced course match
1st sun. 80 shot reduced course match
1st fri. pratice
2nd sat. sitting rapid fire clinic instructor
3rd sat. reduced course state 80 shot state championship
3rd sun. 80 shot acrouse the course match
3rd sun. state team practice following match
4th sat. practice at 600
5th sat. all day state team practice and tryouts
5th sunday 80 shot across the course match

then after that for june and july I only get about 1 weekend day off a month if that.
the whole weekend and week before and including the 4th of july weekend will be either shooting matches or at practice at the range everyday. no work.
then its off for two weeks of national matches at camp perry.
I do not get very many week ends off till hunting season.
I usually take the middle of nov till sometime in the spring off.

Sat. IDPA
Sun. 3-gun
Sun. Steel match
Fri-Sat. Set up and shoot 3-gun
Sat. IDPA
Sun. IDPA
Fri-Sun. Carolina Cup IDPA
Sat. IDPA
Sun. 3-gun
Fri-Sat. Set up and run 3-gun

Now all these are consecutive weekends through the end of June and don't include at least 1 practice a week.

Second Saturday: IPSC 3-Gun
Third Sunday: IPSC pistol with one shotgun stage before the match
Fourth Sunday: IPSC pistol with one shotgun/one rifle stage before the match

Plus or minus any major matches.

My schedule for the near future is:

16 May: ISPC club match, Coleman TX
23 May: IPSC club match, San Angelo
29-30 May: NM 3-Gun State Championship
4-6 June: USPSA Area 4 Championship, LA
12 June: Breckenridge IPSC club 3-Gun match
20 June: Coleman again
27 June: San Angelo again

I really don't want to forcast anymore, I'm depressed. Somewhere in there, I tend to hit the range two or three times a week for practice. Load ammo one night, dry fire every day...

I will make USPSA Master this year, damn it.

IDPA Master took me an hour last year (as a "B" shooter), USPSA is a bit more difficult. Of course, I've only had my "A" card for a few months (and started playing this game four years ago) but I'm already sick of that "A" :)

I shoot about 6 matches a month. I usually shoot every thursday and then a few weekend ones. I do it mainly for the social interaction. It isnt practice in my book. I try and practice 2 times a week. I am currently training for area 4 and then texas limited. I am with Alex in wanting that M card.

Our local club shoots IPSC 2 times per month, the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. About 15 years ago when I first got into competition, I shot every weekend, either matches or practice. I did this for several years, and finally burned out on it. I took about a 5 year break, and got back in about 4 years ago.

It is fun, but don't make it a job and burn yourself out.

1-2 times a month...don't want to exceed two matches per month, don't want to compete less than once a month.
