My first experience with an auto pistol wasn't a good one but is one I will remember!

The pistol was my first a Bernadelli 80 a Walther PP look alike, imported to the US 1968-1988. I bought it used for 100 bucks in 1979, nice pistol wish I had it back.

The first shot with it will be in my memory for ever, not knowing how to hold the pistol, and being right handed I gripped the pistol in my right hand and brought up the left for support and wrapped the left thumb up and over the top of the right thumb, and pulled of the first round.

PAIN BLOOD, I thought at first the pistol had blown apart, then on closer inspection of my left thumb I see this 3/4" slice on the inside area , the part of the thumb that was IN THE WAY OF THE SLIDE and was cleanly cut with the very sharp corner when it cycled. Damn those Italians and their fine craftmanship! That portion of the slide was so finley fitted and countoured to the frame it came to an almost surgical edge.

Was to proud to get stitched up so now I wear that scar as a reminder of how stupid I was at that time in my life, and it also reminds me of all those guns that I've traded or sold tha I wish I had back.

How many have similar scars and how did you get them:confused:

Stuck my thumb in a Garand when the bolt was locked back once. Once.

Long before I ever joined the service, I'd read about "M-1 Thumb." I knew the hazard, and how to avoid it. Then one night I was practicing "inspection arms" and got just a bit too quick...:banghead:

Another time I made a speed reload with my 1911, and managed to bite the little fold of flesh at the base of my small finger when the magazine slammed home. The finish on the blue slide is still a bit discolored from the blood.

More recently, a speed reload with my old S&W M1917 resulted in the open crane biting the palm of my left hand when I squeezed the cylinder to close the gun.

I keep bandaids in my range bag now.

Oh that made me smile. I remember the first time I shot a glock, well I guess that was the the first time I shot an auto (many many years ago) I did the same thing and lost some blood.

I've lost quite a few 'flaps' o skin over the years from closing bolts, slides and other encounters with moving steel. Probably bled a few times from disassembling/reassembling firearms too. Just part of the 'fun' I guess.

I do have a scar on the web of my right hand from accumulated hammer bites of firing M1911 Govt. models.

The first time I loaded the SIG P239 I had, all my fingers were wrapped fully around the grip. So I painfully pinched my little finger between the mag well and floorplate, actually biting off a small hunk of skin. Now, no matter what gun I am holding, I always curl my little finger away from the butt when loading. It only took that single occurrence to make it a habit.

The first semi auto pistol I ever fired was a beretta .22. I put my left thumb around the back of the pistol similar to a revolver hold and the hammer got me on the first knuckle joint. I was about 15 at the time, never forgot it.

The only scars I have from firearms are cuts from shooting hot ammo out of rifles/shotguns with sharp trigger guards.

Nope - dad taught me to keep my bits out of the moving parts at a young age.

Still, I do have the honorable hammerbite-scar on the web of my paw dexter from a few 1911s with a spur-hammer.

Colt .22 Woodsman second generation slide was my nemisus...Twin rail cuts on the web between my thumb and fore finger...Oh the pain (and blood)...
