How much do you clean your guns?

My wife takes excruciating pains to make sure her gun is cleaned after every shooting session. I clean mine every time, but it is much less detailed. If I really want it cleaned, I offer to let her shoot my guns, then she feels obligated to clean until you could use the gun to eat with.

To what extent do you clean your guns?

I am not obsessive-compulsive. I clean my guns to the point they are clean, functional, are properly lubed and don't rust.
I don't wory about every crack, crevice, and grove during normal cleaning.
Sometimes, in the years that I shoot a very large amount, I do a detailed strip down and clean it real real good.
But that's about it.

Disgustingly clean

I have tried to go to sleep knowing that one of my firearms, fired that day, is a "host" to nasty, slimey gunpowder residue, lead, copper and (Oh no!):sand! ....I can't do it. I don't spend more than an hour on each one, but I do concentrate on the areas that I feel affect performance. I try to clean out any gunk where the extractor should move freely, the bore, and, of course, the trigger assembly, safety, hammer....and I disassemble, clean and reassemble the magazines every two-three sessions. Obsessive? You bet!

I like them to be cleaner than when they came from the factory. I don't go all crazy swabbing the bore, I do want some rifling left, but I try to get nooks and crannies but without a full strip to single pieces. I just like them to look new.

It depends, my 870 I havent cleaned beyond a bore snake and a spritz of CLP after every outing (probably around 1300 shells fired), while my AR15s are operating-room-clean. I havent bothered to clean my SKSs after I took them to the range 3 months ago, but I cleaned my AK before I refinished it and I try to at least spritz it with CLP, brush the bore and clean the gas piston after range trips. I answered 'Clean enough to function.'

I was taught to keep them "showroom" clean. No lead or copper residue in the barrel or chamber, no powder residue anywhere, clean out the old lube and appy fresh after every trip to the range.

I'm not an obsesive gun cleaner (maybe I am?) but......after I shoot, if I don't clean it right away - and clean it well, and get every speck I can find out of it and relube, etc, etc. - - it's on my mind until I do - usually that day and always before I take it to the range again. Wouldn't want a malfunction just because I thought it was 'clean enough' and it wasn't. Besides, I actually like it - nice down time for me - you know......

Always after each session, maybe the next day or two if I'm really beat down tired and need some R&R.
