i clean my guns after every time i shoot them but sometimes i dont get out for a month or two. do you clean your guns just because they haven't been cleaned in a while?

my cleaning routine is to clean after firing. The only gun that is treated different is my house shotgun - the 870. It seems to like to rust if its not oiled every couple of months. So every 3 or 4 months, if I haven't taken it out for practice, I break it down, and gently oil the parked areas.

So if I didn't want to clean my gun(s) that often, what could I do?

How great is the difference between guns that emphasize their "low maintenance" as a feature vs. guns that don't?

How about storage in a closet with a dehumidifier in it? Or in a vacuum-sealed bag with a pair of scissors sitting next to it for quick opening?

How about effective long-term ammo storage?

if it gets shot a lot. . . it really doesn't get cleaned a lot :)

kinda a contridiction, but im not breaking down my 22 for 100 rounds

my MK II, when it starts cycling slowly, about 750 rounds
my AR-15s-300-400 rounds, whether they need it or not:neener:
glocks -200-300, cause i shoot lead out of them, and still fear a KB
sks's- when they cease to function properly.

only exception is the mosin nagant, that gets windex after every shooting session to prevent the corrosive ammo from workin her over

for the guns that are my fathers and don't get shot as much, i'll wipe them down with oil every 6-7 months. those golden rods and silica packets do wonders to keeping rust down. i used to have to do it every 3-4 months.

I clean after shooting corrosive and check them a week later

other guns get checked after being used and if not "too dirty" get put back in the safe.

I have some guns that are cleaned after every use and other maybe once every 10k or every few years. Thats what I like about my G17. A drop of oil on the slide every now and again and it is ready for duty or plinking.

Clean mine after every range session and if they havent seen the light of day
for a while about every 6 months they are all inspected and lightly reoiled.

i clean after each range trip, that dosen't mean that it is that day always but at least with in a day or two of the range trip. if it isn't a designated defense gun then they are normally the last to be cleaned, ie hd guns and carry guns, are the first to get cleanned and loaded and put on duty, then i worry about the other stuff.
