How much does it cost to ship a handgun via FedEx?

Not too long ago, I shipped a Colt 1911 (or was it two?) Fedex Priority Overnight to an FFL.

As was posted before, Fedex requires firearms to be shipped Priority Overnight.

It was an East Coast to Left Coast shipment and it came out to over $90 (insurance included)!

That's a pretty stiff shipping charge, even when you factor in higher fuel prices.

That's why I ship handguns USPS at half the price.

As far as I know, you cannot ship handguns through the U.S. Mail unless you are an FFL. You can only send long guns through the U.S. mail if you are not an FFL. I think it is a crime to ship a handgun through the mail without being an 01FFL.

First of all, if FedEx thinks I am going to write "FIREARM ENCLOSED" (aka please steal me) on the outside of shipments, they are nuts and they can keep on dreaming.

It is illegal for them to put writing on the outside of the package identifying it as a firearm. A federal crime I believe.

I guess that tells the tale of DHL. I'll continue to use UPS Ground for my "machine parts".
