Not much compared to most other agencies. Very few IRS agents are armed.

My aunt is a commercial airline pilot.

She says it is not rare to have armed IRS agents and armed postal inspectors on her plane.

Irs Ci

IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) has approximately 2,800 special agents. They are the law enforcement arm of the IRS. Positions such as Revenue Agent are not law enforcement positions.

and a lot of the CI's focus on internal employees. Therefore, not armed. How do I know this? I work for the IRS. Not as a CI, but an IT guy.
