I went to one dealer to ask about ordering one (on backorder, of course).

He wants $529 plus tax for it. Also, he wants the money up front before making the order--and rightly so. In this polymer age, a small percentage of gun shoppers would be interested.

How does that price compare to what y'all are seeing?

That's high. Very high. He may never get the gun and he'll have your money tied up in it. I've had my dealer trying to get one for about 3 months now. He still calls often and puts pressure on to get one for me. They're very hard to come by. Hop over to www.rugerforum.com and click on the revolver section for more info.

The local dealer here would probably charge over a grand.

The guy really annoys me with his extreme price jacking.

I picked mine up for $439.00 have to add NICS and tax $498.02 total. Best thing about the deal is he had it in the display case, no waiting!

Well, it is high and even in this "polymer age", there is a large demand for this model.

I see quite a few ppl talking negatively about their dealer's prices and service. At what point does one see this and find a new dealer?

Yeah, I was thinking it was a little higher than average.

The problem for us folks in rural areas, at least in this case, is that there are few Lipsey dealers around. Heck, there are few gun dealers around. That means we either pay the high prices or, as in my case, we sit tight and wait. Sooner or later, a reasonably priced one will show up at a gun show. However, every so often, I have the temptation to splurge on something I want.

By way of comparison, the Flattop 50th Anniversary in 357 or 44 Mag is around $380 at CDNN. Factor in $20 shipping and $20 FFL transfer, and the total cost is around $420. That's over $100 cheaper (including tax on the Lipsey gun), but you don't get the .44 Special. Heck, that's quite a premium just to have it in that caliber. I think I've just typed myself out of the Lipsey Special.

$380? fer real?
geez. I paid $500 for mine back when they were fresh.

Of course up in New England prices seem very high.

ANY holder of an FFL should be able to place an order from them. Some dealers prefer to stick with one distributor just for loyalty for for allocation reasons. IMO, it's be yet another reason to make the trip to find a different dealer. If one won't help, there's always another willing to.

Most of the Lipsey's .44 Spl's seem to going in the mid to high $400 range. I paid close to what your dealer is asking only because he had one on order for me and got it (NO money up front) when nobody else was getting any. The extra few bucks weren't as important to me as the service.
As a side note: Mine is the 4 5/8" version and the gun was damn near perfect out of the box. I changed grips to faux ivory which are wider than the checkered plastics and make for a great little pistol. Get one, if you can, and I think you will be pleased.
