Today I called Savage Arms and talked with their special orders desk. I got a lot of factoids, but what do you think the upper limit will be for a Sav. WW 116? I explained as best as I could, that I'm left handed, and that I'm doing a wildcat family based on streamlined Ruger Basic cases. I've got the 8mm covered with an old mil. BRNO, but now I'm looking at a lefty .375 with 5 grs. less H2O to the mouth than the 375H&H. Beyond this, my custom form dies, coming in August, may or may not give me a 400 Brown Whelen profile, albeit in .450 cal.. Kind of a 400 Brown Whelen on steroids. It should fall in between the 458 Winnie, and the 458 Lott. My neck will be long enough to either go 2.6" for paper patched lead slugs, or go 0.030 inch shorter than the 458 Win mag, to keep those undersize cartridges out of my chamber.
Sadly, there isn't much for lefties in controlled feeds at present. This 45::40 KW would be right on the ragged edge of viable headspacing, but I could still use some field reports on shooting the big cartridges in these Sav.116's. I'm going with the 1 in 10 inch twist in the .375. The barrel will be 20-21 inches long, with some kind of Red Dot or holo sight solidly mounted on a express sight rib, for my 63 year young eyes. I know I'll be asking a lot out of a synthetic lefty stock. Thanx in advance, Carpooler
