How much to offer for lead

I have been thinking of getting in to bullet casting and was talking to a guy at work about it. I mentioned that i cant find any lead for free or cheap to make it doable. then he told me that he thinks his dad has allot of lead 4-5 pound pugs laying around. he is going to see just how many he has and told me to make a offer on them. i did tell him that i couldn't pay any were near the scrape rate of lead. so any suggestions on what to offer for a lead pug

Cold beer seems to work the best for me.

Do your homework - call your local scrap dealers and see what they pay for lead - not what they sell it for. Make your offer accordingly.

Jmorris' suggestion is also a good one - ask what kind of beer the man drinks, and ask him if a couple of cases (depending on the quantity of lead) would work. The same technique has worked well in the past for me at tire stores for scrounging wheel weights.

on ebay its around a dollar a pound. delivered is about 1.20 a pound. i usually buy around 50-60lbs at a time.
