I am looking for a fun gun to shot and look the look of the enfield lee 303 rifle " i think the mark 4 with the long wood stock how much should i be looking to spend for one and good shape? I have a c&r ffl as well so any links to a good deal is great too

thank you looking

there are a huge amount of Enfield SMLE models from $200 to $4000+ sniper models, which one are you looking for?

and also be prepared that .303surplus ammo are no longer cheap and has dried up. It makes sense to pick up a M91/30 mosin first as a plinker rifle, good accuracy and cheap ammo

The GOOD surplus .303 ammo is pretty much gone, but the Hot Shot, Sellier & Beloit, Wolf, etc. .303 ammo is not that expensive, and you could look into reloading. Loading is fun, and it gives you a chance to tweek the accuracy of the rifle.

#4mk1's are a bit more common, being "newer", but lots of #1mkIII's (AKA Sht Le MkIII) from the First World war and later are still around. I prefer the #4's sights myself. Lots of fun to shoot, and I find that if I go hrough 40 to 50 rounds in a shooting session, I have had a good day. But then, I have a rack full of .303's, so I am partial.

A No4 MkI should go in the $200-$240 area. The No4 MkII a little more, they are generally in better condition. Rarer version can run up over a grand and past four grand for a nice No4(T). Condition is everything, looking for pitting at the start of the bore and the chamber. These have had years of corrosive ammo fired in them and not always cleaned properly. Check headspace! Check the number on the bolt head, 0-3, a 3 is near the end of it's life.

If you watch for surplus ammo it does show up occasionally, I have a few K of SA stashed. Commercial ammo goes on sale some times and is not bad, .35 a round or so.
