I bought a new Ruger Blackhawk in 1977, I paid 167.00 for it. I decided it was time to get it's little brother and started looking for a used Single Six. Hit a gun show this morning and found 2 LNIB, they wanted 450.00 for them, say what ? I then went to Sportsco in Fife and they had one for 398.00 + tax so I said to myself, why not, I'll just eat soup the rest of the month. So now I have the Blackhacks little brother that I will probably only shoot a few times a year seeing as though I can't reload for it pluse I really enjoy shoot my semi's a lot. My question is this, when the heck did a little revolver get this expensive ?
PS: it is the 6 1/2 inch barrel, same as the Blackhawk.

It's been 37 years since you bought your last one. If you paid $450 for the new one that equates to a 2.72% inflation rate. On an inflation adjusted basis I'd say you did really well...I would've expected it to cost a lot more than $450 if you factor in all the costs it takes to make stuff and ship stuff nowadays.

***sorry...I noticed after I typed this that the single six and the blackhawk are a bit different in price currently. If you got another blackhawk for that price it would be a 2.72% inflation rate. To figure the rate on a single six I'd have to have a 1977 price for that model.

It still looks like prices on those haven't changed a lot on an inflation adjusted basis though. A Blackhawk purchased at $550 today is only a 3.2% inflation rate over your 1977 price of $167. So even that is a pretty good deal. Heck...i might go buy one now.

I think I paid somewhere around $120 for a new Single-Six back at the same time you bought your Blackhawk. It was a sweet little gun but I eventually sold it once I started playing around with one of those Ruger 10 shot .22 autos. Prices sure have gone up a bit since then but even at today's prices I still feel they represent a pretty decent value for the money.

I forgot to add, he did throw in a box of CCI WMR, so I guess that makes it worth it
I just finished cleaning it and plan on a range trip in the morning. I will say it is very well put together.

I had 2 at one point, an older gun with 6" barrel and my new one has the loonnngggg barrel. Really no difference in accuracy with LR but very much more accurate with mags in the 9". The 9" is easier to aim, but I miss my shorter gun. I sold it to make up for the 400 I put into the new one. I wish I had just kept them both.

Some rough comps for 1977.

Averages now, for the entire nation and year:
Cost of a new home: $54,200.00
Median Household Income: $13,572.00
Cost of a first-class stamp: $0.13
Cost of a gallon of regular gas: $0.62
Cost of a dozen eggs: $0.82
Cost of a gallon of Milk: $1.68
