I have a marlin model 81 bolt action .22 that has no serial number (not ground off, i think it came from the factory that way) on it, i was wondering how old it is. Thank you.

Thanks

It's old and rough looking and i had to tid rear rear sights with JB Weld but it is surprisingly accurate, my kids cut saplings in the back yard down it at about 25 yards, i have 2 other semi auto .22's and several other rifles handguns and shotguns but i's the one they want to shoot. Thanks

WOW I didn't know it was that old

Wow, I didn't know that it's that old, It's a Model 81, so that makes it's production date from 1927 - 1940.They sure don't mae em like they used to. I wonder if anyone knows wher ei can get a scope mount for it. Thanks

Unless it's drilled for mounts, you'd have to get the weaver side mount, and it would need to be installed by a good gunsmith.

I'm sure there are other options, that would allow you to use better scopes than the small .22 scopes, but they slip my mind at the moment.

I Agree

Personally, i don't care for scopes , i think it's funny that the only rifles i have scopes on are .22's i use iron sights on everthing else, and the scopes i use on those .22's are full sized centerefire scopes.

sorry about that, i get a little dyslexic and start haying typo's when i'm tired.

I have one those old Marlin M81 rifles. 9137-1940 vintage. No serial numbers.

Works very well. It was my granddad's & will never be sold.

I just purchased one of these on consignment for $100. Looks pretty good, but doubt it has much value due to price. Seller/consignor is pretty knowledgeable. Does yours have the ring site. Store told me it was a military training gun. As for scope mount, store said if could find a mounting plate to fit he could tap and drill it for about $30. Doesn't sound to bad.

look on the left rear side of the back of the receiver, if need be, take out of stock and see; there may be two holes on the back left side, this will be for a peep site. Rejoice in the Lord, if you do have this, I love mine with it's rear peeper.

My old 81 had the holes and I bought an original peep for it. There is a fella over at rimfirecentral who makes arpetures for them. I love mine. It will stack bullets at 50yds.
