I was about 5 or 6 and it was my dad's 410 bolt action shot gun. I love that gun. I keep wanting to find one just for the memories.

IRA Hideaway

I was 8, my Dad kept a Pub just outside of Liverpool, UK.

My buddy Eddy and I were exploring a old house, bombed out, don't remember how we found the stash, 6 short swords in a wooden case, and 6 shot revolver, no front sight, the barrel had been cut short.

It was a large calibre, my older Brother had a 410 shotgun, the cartridge fit into the cylinder, a break open (the boys will not be able to open that!) I have never been a fan of kids not being able to make a gun work!

We cut the cartridge down, repacked it? sealed it by dripping wax in it... With a burning candle!

Took it down the cellar, BEER cellar, and shot it at the stone wall! my Dad flew down the steps, to meet 80 years of dust falling, spanked, both of us! you smacked everybody's kids in those war years.

Cutlasses and Revolver to local Police, my Dad said I would loose this fascination with guns? Still got it!

Wish I would have started earlier!

Borrowed a 16 ga Mossberg bolt action from my dear friend Ken Noteman. Shot it several times.... never really hitting anything.

Fifth time out hunting in 1977, put the gun between my legs to fix my hat and the gun dropped down and went off. In my chest.

Haven't missed a season since then... both kids went to hunter ed. and so did I.

Never point the barrel of a gun at something unless you intend to shoot it!!

I was five when my father started me shooting with a .22 pump. However, it could be argued that I started earlier, as my mother went duck hunting when I was nine-ten months old and carried me in a backpack.

BB guns were frowned on as not being "real guns," so I didn't get one until my stepfather gave me one when I was eleven.

Had a Red Ryder at 4, a .22 at 8. First deer & elk at 10. Montana was a great place in which to grow up & my Father, God rest his soul, was the best, in addition to being a fine outdoorsman & willing teacher. Started my Kids the same way.

i picked under 6 dont know for wure when i started shooting .22s but had a bb gun when i was 5

my daughter has been shooting .22 revolver since 4yrs old. i had to hold the barrel for her and she didnt really hit anything but had fun doing it

It helped having my father in the Army. I was given my first airgun at 6, and he snuck me onto the range when ever he could until I could hold a BREN LMG into my shoulder aged 8yrs old.

shot a bren at 8, nice.

i first started shooting an m1 carbine at 9 with my grandfather. my parents were weird about guns, weren't anti but didn't really like them

Did not shoot when I was very young. Nobody was anti, hunting and shooting just weren't interests that my parents were into. One of my first purchases when I graduated from college and moved to a new city was a Colt 1911.

Getting ready to take my son out now. He is nine and has been shooting since he was about five. We are going to shoot my first gun, a Stevens Crackshot 22 LR. How kewl is that?

My first deer hunt, 6 years old, carrying a 30-30 Winchester Model 94.
I still have that rifle.

We actually shot the Ruger MII that he was doing very well with putting magazine after magazine onto an index card. Although he is lefty it looks like he might shoot rifle righty. Makes it easier for me and him when it comes to long guns.

16-17 years old. If you include BB guns, then make it about 13.

I think I was 8 or 10 when I first shot an AR-15. We we're away on vacation some place. My Father and My Uncle we're in to guns and we ended up at a gun range. Sure enough, there was an AR there and I fired it. Was pretty cool.

The first time I ever fired a pistol, I was 35 back in 2006. I wish I'd done it sooner! I absolutely love how liberating and stress relieving it can be.

Shot my Dad's .22 Stevens bolt action when I was 5 with my Grandpa holding the rifle while I aimed and fired. By the time I was 8 I was free to roam the pasture with that old gun. I killed more rabbits than I could count and my Granny would fry them up for dinner without hesitation. My Dad died when I was 18 months old and shooting that .22 was about as close to him as I ever felt. Sure wish I had that gun today. Maybe some day I'll run across one like it.

An uncle that had divorced my aunt when I was younger came back in the picture when I was around 11 or 12. Started me and his grandsons shooting BB guns and .22s a few times a year.

If you don't count .22 rifles at Boy Scout summer camp and a few 20ga rounds off the back of a cruise ship, I was 51.

How come no 50-59 category in the poll? :p
