I have a beauty in box with all papers. It has minimal wear. It's a Model 28 NO DASH. Every time I look them up I only find 28-2 models. Any idea as to the rarity?

The Highway Patrolman was made 1954 to 1957 with no model number marking.

The Model 28 (no dash) was made from 1957 - 1960.
28-1 - 1960-1961
28-2 - 1961-1982
28-3 - 1982 - Discontinued 1986.

I doubt yours is particularly rare just because it is a no-dash.
It would seem a 28-1 might be rarer.
Value would be similar to later guns in similar condition.

Not sure how rare it is but it was made from !954 to ca. 1960. I would say it's more rare if it has 6" barrel. I think 28-1 is Holy Grail of S&W DA revolver collecting.

If it has the box and original papers, some will pay more for that. They are one of S&W's great N frame revolvers, prices keep going up on them.

Again, they didn't give them model numbers until 1957.
Prior to that, 1954 to 1957, they were just called Highway Patrolman.
The OP's 28-1 was made 1957 - 1960.

According to serial number it is a 1959 model. It has the standard 4" barrel and target stocks. Would the stocks be diamond magnas? I believe that's what I'm seeing. Need to get the daughter to post pics for the old man.

Could have came with either diamond Magna's or diamond Target stocks.

I believe Target stocks were an extra cost option just like wide Target hammer & Trigger, red front insert, etc.

If you have the original box, there should be a white paper label on the end with the factory options it had hand written on it.

The Mod 28's aren't rare yet. Everyone should own one though, they are great guns. I can't tell you anything else that hasn't already been said.
