How to conceal firearms when leaving home?

I used to live in Brooklyn and would often go out for target shooting and never had any issues with anyone seeing my gun cases come and go from the house. I did do my best to keep it on the down low though

I have arrangements made with the neighbors on either side of me. Thankfully I'm pretty rural. The older, single, alcoholic crazy woman on one side. "Heather, don't talk to me unless it's an emergency and I'll do the same for you". Can't stand her.
The older, single older guy on the other side---
"We're friends and all but if you do anything dumb I'm gonna tell Heather you're having a party". We also keep an eye out for each other and know which vehicles belong there. Get along great.

He knows I have guns, I know he has a couple and he knows if he can see me, I have at least one on me. Still glad we all have big yards though.

This won't help carrying to the car, but a buddy of my, hollowed out a large book, to store his WWI Colt 45 in, in case he was broken into. He put it with his other books on the shelf. The title of the book was like, Manual Labor Jobs and How to Find One... He always joked that this generation would never even get near that book.

I live in a very pro-gun area and my neighbor is retired USMC. Even so, I prefer to keep a low-profile for the same reasons I carry concealed rather than open. I realize that carrying a gun case to the truck is not the same as open-carrying an AR-15 or even a Glock in Walmart, but I still prefer my privacy. If I could, I would load the guns in the vehicle while it was still in the garage. Unfortunately, the truck is too long and the 4x4 is too tall to fit in the garage. I don't think they make garages like they used to because I remember my parents could fit a coupe and station wagon in their two-car garage and both those cars were 20 feet long and 6 1/2 feet wide. It's all I can do to fit my wife's little 15' car in our "three-car" garage. So I just carry a Boyt case to the curb.

There is not much to be done for a magnum-action rifle with a 26" barrel or a 30" automatic shotgun. Maybe you could put them in a ski case. For a carbine with a collapsible or folding stock, I like a hard case. I know Pelicans can say "gun" especially if they're AR-15 size, but I use them for the toolbox in my 4x4, for camera gear, and more. They're good cases. Tough and protective.

Forget the neighbors. What do you do to hide your newly-acquired guns from your wives?

I picked up a model 36 in the original box cheap at the gun show. Told my two sons "I don't think Mom needs to know about this."

As soon as I cracked open the door, the younger one yelled out "Dad bought a gun!"

Anyway, I just moved, and the topic of sneaking guns into the house came up. It was probably 100 long guns (I really need to pare down the collection 20 or so). I backed the car up partway into the garage to load everything in.

The gun safes are another story. No sly way to get them in.

I have a lacrosse racquet bag, a tripod bag, and a yoga mat bag, which were made for non-firearm purposes, and have been helpful in toting various long guns discreetly, to and from vehicles and buildings, and such.

I have, also, used a purpose-built, well-padded, Eagle Industries AR/M4 carbine Discreet Case, to tote photography tripods. ;)

My neighbors know that I own photography gear, and firearms, but I would rather keep things discreet, regardless.

Backing the vehicle partially into the garage works well. I have also used the discrete guitar case technique for bringing long-guns into tourist trap resort hotels while on a long family road trip. However, no need to be clandestine when staying at a small Colorado mountain town (like Kremmling) during elk season- Most of the parking lot is hunters.

I keep telling my wife that it doesn't look "very realistic" every time she tells me to hold her purse while she steps on the scale at the doctor's office. But she makes me hold it anyway.:D
If you were stylish enough to coordinate your shirt with her purse, it would look a lot more realistic. Personally, I'd never give a man grief about holding a purse. As embarrassing as that might be, a guy hitting me with his purse would be tough to live down. If he CC's in his purse, it might be painful to more than just my pride.

Last year there was a fire in the apartment above us and I only had time to go out and move my truck before the firemen came. Because there was danger of water dripping down onto my stuff one of the cops walked my home defense shotgun to my truck for me. Of course, with a fire there everyone came out lol so they knew I had guns. I do not think anyone cared.

If I were in the hood I'd be nervous of people seeing gun cases or a computer case but other than that and especially in a suburban area I would not be too concerned. I do like having a gun safe that is generally impossible for a single person to carry off, so that made me feel better in the apartment.

Living in Texas, I have never felt the need to conceal firearms, even walking to the mailbox. I believe one draws more attention to themselves trying to be inconspicuous because your normal behavior and pattern changes.
