how to field strip a springfield armory xd9?

So I'm new to this pistol and I wanted to find out how to "properly" field strip it. And I found this video on youtube, do you guys think this is a good video on how to do it the right way? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHYow8ymOko

p.s. They should have a "how to" section on the forum with lots of how to type of stuff. just an opinion from a newbie

that's how you do it ... the manual would have told you the same thing

don't stress over it, it is just as easy as it looks in that video

When I first started, I thought you had to take the slide up and over something to get it off, but it's as easy as:

1. Empty (magazine and chamber)
2. Lock slide back
3. Flip the take-down lever up
4. GRIP the slide, release the slide stop, and take it off
5. Separate the recoil spring from the slide and take the barrel off.

That's it. PS: I didn't watch the video because I'm at work.

Part of step #4 is to bring the slide to the forward position, point gun in a safe direction and pull the trigger.

THEN it'll come off the frame.

Here is a video I made of it. Yes it started loaded in the video but that's because I drew it from the holster already loaded as it's my carry gun. Figured I would include the clearing in the video.

You don't break it, you're not shooting the gun with ammo but you are "shooting" it when you are ready.

Exactly! It is ok to dry fire a gun. Always in a safe direction.
