I had a hard time trying to find a HD video on field stripping the AK-47 that was clear, easy to understand, well lit and well explained. So...here is my contribution, FWIW:

I had to use a mallet and wooden dowel on mine the first dozen times or so, but now I can do it with my bare hands. It loosens up with use. Lube helps too.

Yes, I've seen people wacking that lever, hard, with a hammer!

And, as for being easy. Sure, it is easy...after you do it a few times. I was shocked at how hard it was to find a really good quality "how to" on YouTube.

Agree on this. When cleaning out in the field I've used the bottom of a mag to hit it and knock it loose. At home a screw driver levered in just the right way usually does the trick. Either way it's a pain until it's broken in.

I taught my younger sister years ago to dissasemble/reassemble an AK, it got to the point where we timed eachother, which led to blindfolded and timed. Time started, which you then stripped it (cover, spring, bolt carrier, bolt, & gas tube) then reassemble it, then time stopped. best time, just under 12 seconds; blindfolded. Much fun....
