Pre-loaded 8 1/2 shells are rare. Big stores get a variety of shot and often have 25 lb bags of 8 1/2 shot. Large skeet tournaments usually have vendors that bring 8 1/2 shot. For smaller gun shops and for trap/sporting clays tournaments, 8 1/2 is a special order item. For instance, Gamaliel will bring 8 1/2 shot to the Kentucky State Trap Championship if you call them before they load their truck and trailer.
