I was just outside for 30 mins looking for a snake who tryed to get me while I was building something. I wanted to know is how do you clean a shotgun? with high hum and high temp 90f+? I heard some people spray stuff on? (what is this stuff?) I just took the gun a part put a little rim oil on the barrel outside, and the inside where the barrel connects and droped a few drops of hoppes oil on the moving parts.

The only difference in cleaning with weather is the viscosity of your lubricant. Other than that, you shouldn't have any difference.

As far as a rust preventative, there are myriads of choices. A lot of people say Eezox is the best, or other pure rust preventative for putting on exterior, non-action parts, like the barrel on your shotgun. If you can get BreakFree CLP, that is a good all around product but it is not the best at any of the three things it is supposed to do (clean, lube, preserve). It is a jack of all trades, master of none type of product.

I personally, on my Mossberg 500, just use BreakFree LP (not CLP), for lubricant and preservative duties. Cleaning, I usually just use Hoppe's #9 solvent if it gets real dirty or I have shot upwards of 500 rounds through it. If not, I just wipe it down real good with a rag and then give it a light layer of the LP.

clp I dont know about because I used clp+steelwool toremove rust. now LP I just spray that stuff any where on the gun? moving parts? internal? will not damage or rot/degrade the finish?

I would not "Spray" oil on wood, generally. Why are you spraying anyway onto anything but a rag? it sounds very imprecise. I also think you meant Rem-Oil earlier and think that it has Teflon in it -- it is ESPECIALLY for moving parts and should all but eliminate wear. It is OK elswhere but not designed for the barrel per se, and I find it funny you used Hoppe's Oil for the moving parts instead (when it is just simple 100-yr. old gun oil).

IO coat all my guns with high temp automotive lithium grease -

the putple stuff that comes in a cardboard tube. Wipe a little bit on over all expose metal, then wipe it all off. It leaves a very thin coatint that shines byt is not sticky and it PREVENTS rust even in high humidity areas...I learnd this from and old gunsmith in Alabama where it seems to get humid at times. I have been doing this for about 12 years and have had no problems-or rust- with it. I am still using the same tube I bought for under $3.

Rem Oil wipes, like handi-wipes, but oilier, are great. Keep them around, and if you sweat on your gun, wipe it off with one.

Bullfrog Rusthunter wipes come in a big plastic dispenser, and are less expensive. I like them even better (not really oily), but they don't fit in your pocket.
