How do you go about lubing but not sizing an as cast bullet that's just right with an RCBS Lube-a-Matic 2? I have a Lee mould that throws a .453 bullet for my 45 colt that is perfect size for my revolver but needs to be lubed only. I have tumble lubed for it In the past but I want to use the RCBS now.

Suspect you need a .453 sizing die, at least that is how i'd do it. You have to have a die in there to control the lube flow.

Yep, a .453" diameter sizing die will do the trick. It will probably be easier to find a .454" sizing die, and it "could" work, if you don't use too much pressure on the lube.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I can only find .452 or .454 sizing dies so I hoped someone may have tried a .454 on a .453 bullet.

What I would do, if I just had to do it is:

Take a .452" sizing die and wear it out to .453" with black emery paper on a stick in a cordless drill.

Pretty easy to do.

And it would be worthwhile to make every bullet perfectly round, IMO.

You can always use Lee Liquid Alox and bypass the sizer all together.

I used to tumble lube my self. There are many than "pan" lube also.

I have also tried a few of the coating processes as well.

You won't have a problem lubing .453" boolits in a .454" die. .001" is not enough clearance for leakage.

I'll be using White Label Lube's BAC. Also, I think that the bullets are closer to .4535 than dead on .453.

I believe you will find the cheapest such dies are by aftermarket suppliers on the Cast Boolit board. There are several vendors, but I only have experience with Lathesmith.

If you want it JUST RIGHT, then polishing it out like RC suggested will only take you about an hour at most. Just use some good wet dry on a split ended wooden dowel. Roll it around until it will just fit inside the die and go slow, and check often by sizing a few bullets. Add a drop of oil to it as you go and it will polish right up like you wouldn't believe.

It isn't hard at all.
