How to protect recoil shield during cleaning?

HI Guys,
Many years ago I saw a product from Remington--a piece of plastic that goes in front of the recoil shield to protect it from being scratched when you are pushing a cleaning rod through the bore.

Do you guys know what this is called or if such a thing exists?

I was cleaning my revo tonight and on a few occasions I pushed the rod too fast and hard that I scratched my FP bushing.

Er, I've never had this problem. But if you find yourself really having this problem, what I would do is get some cardboard and a pair of scissors. I'd cut a template to fit the recoil shield (loosely, no need to be precise around the perimeter) and leave a "U" up at the top strap to hold it in place. Then toss it and make a new one next time.

How about just using a bore snake? Easier on the gun.

i get a drill stop to fit my cleaning rod then a rubber washer to "bump" the muzle with .

I've used a small piece of scrap leather before, as well as a wooden paint stirrer from the hardware store; basically anything similar can be used without resorting to buying another gadget........

Using a piece of a Tide Bottle, bright orange, a shield was cut, and still is in use.

Get a softer cleaning rod.
They shouldn't scratch the recoil shield.

As an aside, I got tired of the cleaning patch falling off the jag every time it went through the forcing cone and I pulled it back.

I cut a wood dowel rod stop the same length as the cylinder and drop it in a chamber while cleaning.

Then clean the chambers after the bore is done.

I'm not ragging anyone, but in all my years of shooting , both for record and fun I have never worried about the recoil shield. Just what kind of damage are you going to do to it? You have a cartridge slamming back against it under tremendous force and speed every time you fire, your not going to harm it while cleaning you gun unless you're using a chainsaw.

but i don`t want to scratch it !!!!
i have seen (not mine) scratches that would catch certain brass , scratch or ding closed up head space just a wee bit. but it was a CLEAN scratch!!!
