Ok so I'm going to buy an Eotech 512 this weekend for my DSA 16.25" FAL, and I was wondering what exactly the process is for sighting it in, as I'm a complete noob to optics.

I've heard 50 yards is the ideal sighting range for a red dot scope. True?

How will the reflex sight and mount affect cleaning and disassembly?

any help is appreciated, thx.

Are you using a cheek piece? If not, you may find that your head position could be an issue withusing the Eotech (which is a high sight) on the FAL, which has a tendency to place the shooters head low behind the reciever.

On a FAL you might also want to experiment with where you put the EOTech on the rail -- on my Para-FAL, I ended up running the sight further forward than I normally would on an M4. Located where I'd normally put the sight, I was getting brass hitting the base of the sight with enough force that it was making the reticle fizzle out for a second or so.

Pushed up towards the front of the DSA scope mount and the problem went away immediately.

Probably shoot the gun and adjust windage and elevation on the sight to match where your bullet goes.

I know some people here will zero at 200 yards because they're just awesome, but I like to fire the first shot at pistol distances, like 10 yards, if I don't have my spotting scope with me.
