How to sight in my Stevens 223

Off-topic: Where did you get it and what'd you pay for it? :)

Depending on the height of your sights (assuming a scope), you'll be dead-on at ~25yds and again at ~250yds.

If you have a large objective scope and high-rings, it'll be closer to dead-on at 50yds and again at 250yds.

This is a "general" trend. Differences in velocities and trajectories will cause variances as to the "zero" ranges. But for bullets in the 2,700fps to 3,200fps, this is a general rule. Also assuming a scope height of 1.5-1.75" over the line of bore.

If you're talking about iron sights, then a 12yd and 100yd rule will roughly apply, again assuming a line-of-sight of 3/4" over line of bore.

I don't bother with 50 yards. I zero at 25, which puts me on the paper at 100 and a bit high.

I sight in for about 1.5" high at 100 yards. Pretty much dead on at 200, and roughly a six-inch holdover on prairie dogs at 300. :)

Remebering my Army days in the 80s. Seems like we zeroed at 25 yds using open sights on our M-16A2s' and could hit man size pop ups out to 300 meters right?

Anyway no real biggy I was just at work daydreaming.

Need to get my little 223 MO coyote out to about 200.

Should be very easy to get it shooting a little low (1") at 25 and be confident testing at longer ranges.

I have a Rossi 243 that if ya zero at 25, It will barely be on paper at 100. I think I got it shooting better now with my redneck free floating rubber backing and a nice Simmons 2.5x - 10x 50mm scope but I'm starting to get OT.:banghead:

be 1.5 inches low at 25 if using a scope , if you are not using a scope, be 1/2 to 3/4 inches low at 25. Should put you about on at 50, and maybe 1 to 2 inches high at 100.
