How to tell when a Colt revolver was made?

My brother just picked up a used (obviously) 6" Colt Official Police .38, in very good condition. He'd like to find out when this particular Colt was manufactured, just out of curiosity. Does anyone know of a website (or other resource) that can give the year of manufacture via serial number for old Colt revolvers?

Also, there's no substitute for some of the experts here and on coltforum.com when it comes to the details of some of these guns (are these stocks correct for this gun, did Colt ever but a blued trigger on this stainless model, etc).
