How to transport guns between Apt. and Car?

When we had an apt, and I need to bring my guns to the truck, I simply carried them in theier regualr cases. Only had 3 other apts in my building and in this state, owning a gun is a common thing. The few times I passed someone, it was like any other time we passed.

Another way to carry long guns is in a duffle bag.

I think it's nice that some people live in places where they know all their neighbors and don't have to worry about crime or curious children or prissy moms or JBT. Far more people think they do.

Well, I could give the trite advice so many do when CA questions come up and say "Move!", but I'll take The High Road and shall not.

The Golf Bag suggestion is the best I've seen for innocuous carry.
I've used a large hardcase in the past, and answered 'Archery' to a query.

I think since you live in California the best thing to do is to buy pistol and rifle cases. Many of the rifle cases look so innocent that its doubtful people would ask you what it is there. Then just say its a guitar.

For the pistol Case just say its a laptop case. Or for the smaller pistol case say its for a camera.

I take it you're living near UCLA or in UCLA. I'd try to be as discreet as possible, I just came home from UCLA and those cops love to pull people over or just plain suspect anything. Today alone I saw 5 cars being pulled over and they even questioned a bicyclist in UCLA! Be watchful and good luck!

If you are wondering why you should be discreet, most apartment break-ins are done by neighbors! Some less than honorable characters see that you live alone, see when you come and go, see what car you drive.

Then one day they find out you have something that is easy to dump for cash, they break in.

I cannot emphasize this enough, if you own firearms and live in apartment, be very very discreet when moving them to/from your car. Cover them up, and when possible, move them when it is dark. I always made it a habit to first walk out to my car to see if anyone is just hanging out in the parking lot. If anyone was around, I would wait to move my guns.

A golf bag is not a bad idea. Square gun cases are always better than gun shaped ones. Duffel bags or a rug also work.

A few points I thought I'd make:

There's a difference between prudent and paranoid.
Discreet is good.
Golf clubs and guitars often cost much more than guns, and are high-theft items. I don't consider cases for the aforementioned items good substitutes for a discreet gun case.

I used a soft case from a folding beach chair. Extra benefit is that it is cheap ($10-$15) and comes with a free chair inside :)

Hey, I like that idea! It's also very hot here and looking like you're going to the beach would be nothing out of the ordinary.

I also have to careful of the magazines that get delivered to me (American Rifleman, SWAT, IDPA mag + all the catalogs from Brownells, Midway USA., etc). If these are publicly viewable / accessible in the apt. building's common area (as they are in my apt.) these also scream "gun owner!" And conveniently they even have the apt # on them! I'm in the process of having all my gun rags mailed to a PO Box instead.

FWIW I've heard that baseball-bat bags are good "urban camo" for long gun transport.

I had that idea too, they look good and would have been pretty convenient with all those pockets, compartments, etc. But I could't find any bags longer than 36", which seems to be the standard size. Not long enough for most rifles.

Just had to do this in major city for first time. (at 1am) Just held it along side leg and walked.....and walked... over 60yds to pickup. :( IMO you guys have right idea of camo/long gun case. If I had misfortune to live in town I would look into it as well

Have to strongly disagree. A gun case is nothing BUT a gun case.
A ratty garage-sale golf bag and a few beat-up clubs is no invitation to burglary.

I carry multiple handguns, ammo and cleaning supplies in my Nike gym bag. My neighbors must think I'm some sort of amateur body builder.:D
