how too: brass shells...

now, I have been reloading shotgun shells before I was eye level to pop's ol gun rack, ive reloaded plastic, even a few paper. and a few of those all plastic hulls they had years ago. Ive known about brass shotshells for about that long too. but i never really understood exactly how you reload one. I would like to work up a few boxes of very low powered shells for this 120+ year old double barrel my dad got from his uncle.

Yes this old double has been given a good look over, and has got the thumbs up by an trusted gunsmith friend. I think it would match the times, brass shells were probly fired in that old shotgun back in its younger days. And firing it for the first time in 50 years with a plastic shell would be like using a plastic powder measure and a powerbelt bullet with my flintlock rifle. It would work. But it just wouldnt feel right, you know?

Now how exactly do you reload one? An overshot card or disk held in place with wax? Or is there something more?

My Grandfather reloaded brass 10 ga. shot shells when I was a kid.

What I recall was he bought heavy weight "tag board" discs in bulk, pressed them into the shell then sealed them with model airplane glue.

That was in the sixtys. I'll bet the airplane glue has given way to something better.
